If you ask anyone if they're friendly, or tell them that you're friendly... most of the time they won't answer and just shoot you, because that's how they play.

I wouldn't tell anyone your friendly, either shoot them or run away.

Never ever, under any circumstances say into a mic when meeting people "Friendly".

Whether you are stating your friendly or asking a question. It just makes you look like an idiot and no one will take you seriously.

[Real life] Imagine, it's late at night and your in the wrong side of town. You walk down an alley and 3 armed dodgy looking geezers step out and block your way. And you ask "friendly".

You wouldn't expect to survive.

Just start talking. Preferably from cover until you get an idea of their character and intentions. Don't deal with anyone who won't respond with voice.

But above all stop asking "friendly". I know everyone does it, and that's the problem. It's so over used it's a throwaway sentence that no one hears any more.

From my recent experiences just shoot everything that moves. Don't bother with the friendly thing because it will just get you murdered. Been there done that, doesn't work.

The longer you are alive and the more stuff you acquire tends to increase your paranoia levels, rather than risk an open confrontation and take out a potential threat (who may or may not have a party with him nearby) it's better to avoid contact and a fire fight unless you have no other choice.

People like to shoot things and that includes other players, you can pretty much guarantee every other person you run into will be a sociopath.

Thing is i dont want to play as a bandit i do generally try and stay away from people but on all occasions when ive been killed its coz ive helped someone. But I will take ur advice im giving up with the are u friendly line :)

I guess what im hoping to get out of this thread is for that password protection to be taken off the arma 2 beta... seriously...are they worried that people who havent bought arma 2 are trying to download it for illegal purposes?

You will only see that password prompt on the BIS beta download page when the server is getting hammered by requests for download. There is no passworded beta.
