Equipment rarity, mod conditions and server hopping.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

So I'm in class and an idea just hit me. I noticed, while running around at airfields/military outposts, that the spawn rate of pristine scope mods (ACOG, PU, LRS, RDS), while not high, is still excessive. I have come across more pristine scopes than damaged or badly damaged. While it's nice to find these, they lessen player interactions. The further your range, the easier it is to pick targets off with these pristine scopes. Also, the KoS CoD Kiddies have the ease of access to their comfort zone of sniping from wherever they wish with the Mosin/LRS combo. I do not ask for less mod spawns, but rather, more DAMAGED mod spawns. This evens the playing field for most everyone, and makes it so that players have to get a little closer than they're comfortable with. Player-to-player interaction is the thing that counts the most in this survival environment, that's my thought anyway.

Besides that, the spawns of large backpacks are still far too abundant. I've come across at least 6 mountain backpacks and 12 hunting backpacks in the last 24 hours... a little much. Those should be lowered significantly to reduce the amount of things people are lugging around. That way players will get a sense of urgency when their tiny Taloon Pack or Child's Briefcase Backpack runs out of food/water/ammo/essentials. There needs to be a focus, rather than people running around with full mountain/hunting packs with ammo boxes, protector cases, medkits and enough ammunition to make a military firing range look like a playground, and enough food/water to supply all of Cherno.

Last but not least, server hopping. Though I am glad that combat loggers are being made to suffer a little bit, there should be rolling penalties. Some people on the forums have mentioned this already. However, I'll state it again for their voices to be heard once more. The more times players switch servers to find loot at airfields/military bases or wherever, the more intense the penalties should become. At first it's a 5 minute wait. Not a big deal to the average hopper. After that there should be an internal timer that makes it so that if they hop again within that timer, the wait jumps to 10 minutes, then 15, then 20, and so on. Punish the hoppers that run around grabbing all the good loot so that they can go back to med-high pop servers to kill fresh spawns. Players who play regularly on specific servers are suffering at the hands of these "Hopper Bandits". It's unjust and one-sided. They shouldn't be rewarded for having tons of free time on their hands, while the rest of us are at work/school/job hunting. Yeah the people who put in more time will have more loot, but restrict it to A server. Not ALL of them. It's much fairer to everyone, and loot will be more available to the other servers that have regular players. My squad mates and I go from server to server day by day, but we pick a server and spend the evening on it.

Anywho, those would be my ideas. I hope you'll consider them, Rocket. I think they'll make DayZ a better game for everyone who isn't there just to snipe people for no reason. :)

I'll try and split these up to actual points.

1. Even the LRS's aren't really that long range, considering guns zero up to 1K and times. Combined with the low view distance, it's pretty fair. And I would point out that we shouldn't be adding in things in order of how they would change the player community. It makes for an unnatural game, the opposite of what DayZ is attempting to be.

2. Yeah, sounds fair enough, hunting and the large backpacks are still a bit common.

3. The 5 minute wait is enough to stop server hopping without being too obnoxious to players, this would make it horrible. Not all players switch servers due to better loot, many do it simply because they didn't see the time of day the server was at, or need to switch to a friends server etc, or even for technical problems. However, not to be condescending, but I'm glad this wasn't a suggestion about an arbitrary gameplay penalty I thought it was going to be.

And as I've said before, the server hopping will go down when respawning loot is introduced. At the moment servers are constantly restarting due to loot not respawning, which is letting people join other servers without penalties, which is just as bad as server hopping.
