mgc 92 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) ""you were talking about removing the inventory screen grid altogether""Correct. ""and simply making one larger inventory""With subs for pants / vest / shirt / backpack to serve realism. (backpacks would have a large PV (max)) ""with a "volume meter" indicating the total amount of storage available.""per subdivision, correct. ""I'd be curious to see what the Devs thought of it.""I asked Dean yesterday and he wasnt exactly clear. Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Sure, I like bundles of items. That would probably make the most sense. It doesn't fix the "a battery, a pen, and a compass take up the same amount of space as a can of food" problem, but it's getting there. It dosen't,but can fix and demonstrate volume capacity of every item.I can have a bundle of 50 pens, the trousers can support a bundle of 50 pens in each pocket (25 pens stacked in 2 squares) thus 100 pens in both pockets. If a square is equivelent to the mass of a normal flashlight. So stackable items will number according the pre destinded flashlight mass capacity. Edit:This is an example, numbers may not be reliable,i was not the brightest of the bunch concerning math :P Edited February 21, 2014 by Damnyourdeadman

pillock 850 Posted February 21, 2014 Do you mean giving things like pens and batteries the same properties as bullets and matches for inventory storage? So you can combine them into the same slot up to a maximum capacity? Cos I can't imagine that would be at all difficult to do for the devs.
TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Are you saying that each slot has a weight limit and you can keep stacking items in the same slot until the weight for that slot has been reached? Not a bad idea? I would rather see the weight for each item in the "inspect" window instead of all over the inventory screen, just my opinion. I would rather see the weight for each item in the "inspect" window instead of all over the inventory screen, just my opinion. It seems they want the volume to be the deciding factor over weight. That's sort of where I was getting hung up. Then there are no "slots" per se, just volume amounts based on clothing type. So jeans can carry x cm3 and each item takes up so many cm3. Or inches if we're going that route. It seems interesting. In a way, it's actually a lot more simple from the player perspective but likely a bitch from the programmer perspective. Good news would be they'd only have to program it once lol.
mgc 92 Posted March 3, 2014 ""It seems they want the volume to be the deciding factor over weight.""Yes. Weight relates more to the stamina thing they want to implement. ""Then there are no "slots" per se, just volume amounts based on clothing type.""There are still slots, but theyre hidden in the math. You need to divide the total volume of the item by the number of pockets to get the PV (max).
