wire cutters and cutting fences

Recommended Posts

After a quick search I didn't find anything, but I may use the search function wrong. Who knows ...

I would like to be able to cut the fences with wire cutters or anything alike.

There are many fences that are fully intact, like Green Mountain, and you must go all the way round to the gate to get inside.

What do you think?

Good idea, wrong subforum....take it there: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/128-suggestions/ ...hm...or just wait until one of the mods wakes up ;)

And I think that specific idea hasn't been mentioned...but I'm too lazy to search now ;) But some similar ideas (like breaking up locked doors with an axe or lockpicking them, even how to tear down a wall/ a hole in a wall... etc.)

In order to get them to move it, you need to report it and tell them to move it :) Which ive done now hehe.

About the idea, is this something we really want?
Will the fences ever "regenerate"?

Otherwise it will take aprox 24 hours for every single fence in the entire map, to be broken and useless, for ever basicly.

Im not sure this is a good idea, simply because it involves so much more then just adding a wire cutter and make it usable on fences.
People will cut everything on the entire map down, within hours, which then leaves us with no fences, for the rest of the entire "game life" :)

Dunno, i feel both good and bad, towards this suggestion.

I did it myself hehe!

They could be fixed after server restart, how about that?

Anyways once vehicles are in the game you won't need wirecutters as long as you got a decent ride

But the devs are aiming towards not having to restart the servers, in the end "product", so thats a no go mate :)

Im just saying, i think it will bring more "trouble" then fun with it.

beans for a good idea!

if they implement wire cutters i would like to see the majority of fences fixed, so that you would need wire cutters to create an alternative enterence.

they could also be used to limit some item spawn locations to players with wire cutters

i really like what this idea could do to change game dynamics

Where do you have this information from?

Would be pretty impressed if restarts weren't necessary anymore.

But why not give the ability to fix them? There could be some reasons to fix the fences ...

server restarts are a current work around to respawn loot and zombies, as well as reset areas. the devs have already spoke about their intended respawn mechanic, so once that's set in place, restarts may no longer be nessessary

Its been one of tha main goals, since the beginning of the SA development mate.

I tryed to find a source, but havent yet, i think its mentioned in one of Rocket's "video logs", but he hass deff said he would like to be able to run the server, without restarts every couple of hours.

Perhaps a small maintenance, once a week, will be the end result, i dunno.

Definitely would be cool to be able to cut fences - although it should take a considerable amount of time and be pretty noisy.  Anyone here ever tried to cut a real chain link fence with wire cutters?  It isn't easy or quiet!  **grunt, snap** for each piece of wire, about 100 cuts required.

Also, the idea of making fences repairable would be awesome.  From a development standpoint this would be easy, too, since they could just make 2 models for each section of fence- a broken one and a normal one.  Then people could use wire spools to 'repair' the fence and wire cutters to 'destroy' the fence.
