jaloswe 0 Posted February 10, 2014 Im tired of having 20fps at the most in the game (mostly 10-13) so i was planning on getting a slightly better cpu since i really dont have the money right now to get a new motherboard, cpu, memory, graphics + ssd disc (which is the plan later on).. What i have now is:Asus m2n-sli (supports AM2/AM2+ cpu's)amd athlon x2 5200+ cpu (2.7Ghz)5gb memoryGigabyte HD 6570 graphics (1gb memory) The graphics card is hardly the best, but i think my biggest bottleneck is the cpu (or atleast hoping it is :) )I am choosing between a athlon x2 6000+ (3.0Ghz) or phenom x3 8450 (2.1Ghz) cpuThe question is: What is best, more cores or more Ghz?I know it's two old and shitty cpu's, but i don't have much choice at the moment since i need something that fits on my current motherboard and i will upgrade all of it in the future. But i don't want to just be able to play at slightly better fps than now, it's horrible now :)Another option is to get a cheap motherboard + cpu but i would still need to know about ghz vs cores. FlamingDefibs 421 Posted February 10, 2014 Just save up your money for a complete overhaul, because if you decide to upgrade your CPU and not your motherboard, you'll be trapped by socket limits, which isn't very good, especially with that socket.
Trigger Hippy 176 Posted February 10, 2014 Here's a top tip: If you want to improve your frame-rate whilst running, look down at your feet. The less of the horizon and above you see, the better. Pro Tip: Look up now-and-again to see where you are heading/spot nasties
jaloswe 0 Posted February 10, 2014 FlamingDefibs: But will it make any improvments? The cpu swap is just as a quick and cheap way to make the game playable until i, in couple of months time, have the money for a complete overhaul. The cost of those cpus is next to nothing so it's no big deal when it comes to the cost, but it might make the game a little bit more fun, i'm tired of the crappy fps, so if i can get 15-20 fps i'd be happy instead of 10-13 which i have now :).. on the lowest graphics settings, windows swap file on different harddrive and so on.. Trigger Hippy: haha, yeah that might be a solution :), i wouldn't get killed anyway, everyone would just feel sorry for the stupid bastard running around like that ;)I've actually tried that and it doesn't seem to do any difference whatsoever on the fps.. elLoCo 154 Posted February 10, 2014 If you get a cheap amd x4 or x6 it might serve your purpose.Don't stick to dualcore. I got an x6 1090t (overclocked) and an 6870 graphicsboard and I've got between 15(large cities) - 60(wilderness) fps. Btw. 5gb of memory? That's fairly uncommon
kein (DayZ) 4 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) If you plan to get a better pc in the future.Maybe you could just by a good graphic card, and reuse it on next pc ;) Useless if the CPU is at 100% charge :( Edited February 10, 2014 by kein
Atom Quark 437 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Need a budget! How much to spend to hold you over? How much you will spend after you save up? Take a gig of ram out and run dual channel. Edited February 10, 2014 by AtomQuark
jaloswe 0 Posted February 10, 2014 4gb it should say :).. typo elLoCo: i5-4670k is the plan in the future, i most definately won't stick to dualcore after the "real" upgrade.. kein: well, after the "real" upgrade it won't be an issue, it's just now as a cheap quickfix to make it playable. im planning on getting a i5-4670k cpu and ssd disc.. If i can, keep the present Graphics, but i dunno how well it performs. i fell like the CPU is the bottleneck now, but if i upgrade to a i5-470k and keep the graphics, then the graphics will be a big bottleneck instead i guess.. AtomQuark: Not sure if i understand the question?.. I have like 70 usd that i can spend on the computer as of today, when i do the big overhaul depends on what i decide to get and how much it is to spend for what i want basically.. but right now it looks like it will be around 650 usd.. i5-4670k, GA-Z87MX-D3H mobo, 8gb ram, ssd disc. tommes 331 Posted February 10, 2014 More cores won't help you with DayZ and most other games. More GHz will. If you can afford it right now, get a SSD right away. This will boost overall system performance like booting and starting programs and stuff. The Arma games profit from a fast HDD way more than any other game. You can easily take the drive to a new system when that time has come.
