Suggestions how i could survive the ambush the next time

Recommended Posts

First of all hi to everyone, since this is my first posting.

Now to my story:

Yesterday i was travelling to the northeast airfield with my mate. we were both pretty standard equipped, my friend had a m4 without any scope and i had an mosin with pu scope. We are generally trying to keep a low profile, so we don't run straight into the place but are silent and always wait some time to see if anything is moving.

So we had a look on the airfield, the doors were all closed and zombies all around. From this we were not expecting people around and were hoping for some nice loot. But we also know never to be incautious so we kill the zombies in our way with an axe to remain silent (one keeps his weapon up in case something goes wrong) and approach the first building (we were approaching from the east). As usual one secures the entrance and the other one (in this case me because m4 was better for guarding at close range) loots the place, trying to keep low so he can't be seen trough the windows. Everything went fine so we went to the next building, which was the tower. Same game there, my mate secures the entrance and i loot.

So next buildings were the hangars. We took our way north of the wall that is surrounding the workshop/garage, when we heard a zombie. So i switch to my axe to kill the zombie. Suddenly things started to heaten up. I hear the sound of a mosin shot, followed by a second shot, striking down my mate. We are playing on a hardcore server so i had no clue where the shots were coming from, but since the first obviously missed, it had to be either an unskilled sniper or he was pretty far away. First thing i did was running behind the wall to make up a plan. Since the wall has been covering us from the south the sniper(/snipers?) had to be somewhere north. I thought maybe i can find them or at least take my friends m4. So i took a look around the wall, but i couldn't see anyone, but there are countless bushes where someone could be hiding. Next thing i did was trying to reach my buddy to quickly loot the m4, when a heard the mosin again. I tried to run back behind cover but it was to late and i got hit and died...

Since i enjoy this game very much and i understand, that setting up such ambushes on hotspot regions is part of the game for some people, i don't have a problem with gearing up once more, but i was wondering if anyone of you more skilled players would have had a tactic where our death could have been prevented.

My own idea was that next time when we move in open field, we won't be croching with our weapons up but doing a fist-up-speedrun, so snipers would have a harder time getting a hit on us. But that way we could have problems being easily spotted or suprised in close range combat...

I am open for any ideas and please excuse my bad spelling because this isn't my motherlanguage

Generally when there is a Sniper, it is not a good idea to try to help a teammate that has been downed by the sniper.

You can see a good example of this in a certain vietnam war film.

To avoid this ambush in future would be very difficult, especially if the sniper is hidden in a bush surrounding the area.

There can be glitcher hidden underground, under hangar floor, under floor of military building or under floor of ATC tower or just hidden into wall.

Nothing you can do about it, unless you glitch throught walls yourself to kill the glitcher.

Notice how much harder it is to see someone in woodland?

Try to navigate in cover of trees as you will be a lot harder to see. This might mean going the long way around, rather than running in as the crow flies, but you'll be much less visible.

If you have to cross any open places you need to bear in mind that movement stands out, and the faster it is the more it stands out. Therefore if you are not under fire, try moving slowly across open ground, maybe even go prone and crawl it.

Spread out and use communication to keep track of each other. If you are really close to each other a sniper will have seen you both if they see one of you. You want it to be so that if the sniper sees one of you, there's a chance that the other is not seen.

Look at the landscape and try to think where you'd be hiding if you were a sniper.

There's probably more, but being aware of this kind of thing will help.

you wanna come in to the neaf from olsha and down the hill. never raid it west to east ever- it's not called sniper hill for no reason! from the sounds of the engagement that's where the shooter was.  As frosti says though it's a glitcher paradise round the hangars and in the jails.

I found the clip from the movie "Full Metal Jacket", it shows how dangerous going after your buddy is in that situation.

Either like Skyline-GTR just said, running out into the "open" or to a downed teammate to either help or loot is a very bad idea as a good sniper or anyone with a brain will use said body as bait.

Alternatively they were glitched into a wall/building and you cannot see them, but they can lean out and shoot you.

The jailhouse building at either end of the NEAF are such buildings that I quite often find someone using this glitch to their advantage.

thank you all, didn't know about the glitching in the walls and under buildings. I will try keeping more space between me and my mate, because since it was a mosin i'd rather think it was a sniper than someone in a wall because they would more likely use a m4 u guess...

In this specific situation next time i go to ne airfield i try approaching "down the sniperhill", and hope i find a sniper with good gear :)

Check the sniper hill for snipers yes, but don't go to airfield. There is game breaking bug (wall glitch) and you gonna get killed by people abusing it.

Now it's either learn to glitch or die like a b**ch.

PS.

Don't go near rocks on potential sniper hills becouse it is possible to glitch into rocks too.

ok so should i avoid only this specific airfield because of the glitches or are the other airfields also that dangerous because of glitches?

1. If you hear any sniper shot, and you are alone, don't try to look for him. If he is a good one, he will not give you a chance to find him.

2. Never go to airfield alone on 30+ servers. It is pretty obvious that it is being overwatched by some bandits.

3. When approaching and open area, try to take 5-10 minutes to do some reconnaissance just in case.

In a perfect world, we would have a perfect game, and in a perfect game, there would be no glitches or hacks or exploits. But we are not in a perfect world, or game, and there are.

IGNORING those glitches and whatnot, honest players should follow this basic mentality:

If you are not the hunter (those laying in ambush), you ARE at all other times the hunted. ANY time you are on the move, no matter how sneaky or careful or fast you are, you are the gazelle. Gazelle are numerous. They often live full lives and reproduce. But they occasionally get attacked by predators. Many times the gazelle escapes. SOMETIMES the gazelle manages a lucky shot, and plants its hoof squarely in the skull of its predator, knocking it out or even killing it. But 9 times out of 10, the gazelle gets eaten.

Of course, sometimes the predator makes a mistake, and itself becomes prey for something else. You may for example, walk up on an otherwise oblivious would-be sniper, and you have at that moment transformed from the gazelle into the lion. and lions do NOT like it when another hunter is on it's turf.

Any time you are on the move, you must assume the possibility that there is an ambush waiting for you up ahead. Ask the bush in front of you:

"You there, leafy branchy thing. What manner of thing are you?"

And the bush will answer you: "AM-bush"....

EDIT: and THAT, is my new signature...

Also helps to set up your own sniper, best way to kill a sniper is with one.
