elephant in the room

ideally dayz standalone full release version, when it arrives sometime no doubt in 2015/16 will contain the following...

 

1 - Persistent storage/stashes for player loot and gear and player bases/camps

2 - 1000's of zombies per server including roaming hordes.

3 - animals, lots for hunting and eating.

4 - More loot in more places including the car wrecks and every enterable building type, lots and lots more than we see now to prevent the need for server refresh restarts every 4 hours and whole maps getting cleared out.

5 - vehicles and vehicle parts.

6 - 60+ players per server

7 - Other added mechanics/items/features which currently haven't even been concieved

8 - Game performance optimized giving at least 40+ FPS in cities for players with average P.C.'s on medium settings

 

I can't wait, I hope they manage to deliver all of the above and perhaps more.

 

The elephant in the room for me is optimization and performance, how will they manage to squeeze that kind of improvement out of the engine while adding all these features and sheer volume of items  which will put massively increased strains upon servers and players P.C.'s, all of which are currently struggling to cope with no where near the levels of burden the above list implies should be coming in the future?

 

Can they deliver? or will they have to compromise, if so where will they compromise?

Will we ever see player stashes?

Will we ever see good performance for average P.C.'s?

Is 60 + players per server just not gonna happen?

Will zombie numbers ever reach the levels we all dream about? Will we see massive hordes?

Are servers doomed to restart every 4 hours for ever?

Because surely miracles just don't happen and there must be a limit to what is possible.

I'm sure given enough time, it'll be optimized It's just one really big game, so you gotta have patience.

And those features you mentioned are all just from the mod, which they'll most certainly include, you never know what else they're gonna add. (I suggest you read some of the interviews with Dean and such, they'll give you some incite on what they're planning.)

Is there any other game out there that comes even close to several hundred characters on the screen at once without performance issues? My guess is we won't see more than 40-50 Zed's in a horde at a time. Even with a strong performance foundation, I just don't think it's possible to expect hundreds upon hundreds of Zed's with today's technology. 

 

I do, however, think that 60+ players per server is a very real possibility, along with the good majority of the other things you mentioned.

All i want is this:

 

To die of hunger because i lost those precious 40% of beans by opening them with my badly damaged axe.

To die of thirst because every water pipe and pond is infected with deadly bacteria and i dont have matches to start the fire to boil up that water.

To actually be scared to fire a rifle in town because it will attract huge horde of zeds that will most likely kill me because i can only kill them with head shots.

Not to mention ur 3 bullets u save to possibly hunt down a deer if ur lucky to find one that is.. so u can eat something finaly.

On top of all this, to play about 15 hours to finaly find a gun that shoots.

To kill another player to steal his precious can of beans.

 

I dont actually want that much , all i want is epic hardcore server that will kill u just by thinking of playing on it.

 

I played mod for over a year, and now i understand the game quite alot and i really miss that basic survival stuff, small things...when u first started playing and died over and over by natural stuff.....not by bugs and server hoppers.

Optimization can do a LOT. And like others have said, the mod had most listed features and ran ok. Im sure with the engine reworks this game will run much better and be able to do much more.

Struggling to cope?

Granted, I own a high end machine but its a year old now and everything is maxed put and I don't have any problems.

You know that you can start fires without matches, and kill large animals with traps, right? THAT would be realistic. Not "oh well, I apparently can't rub two sticks together for half an hour, looks like its time to die."
