smoke-uk 7 Posted February 7, 2014 I was just reading through forum topics about the logout system and it hit me! The way it is now is the wrong way round! There should be a 'Combat Timer' and this should be triggered by being shot at, hit, or chased by a zombie. The timer should be much longer. This would make sure combat situations are dealt with by either escaping the area or killing the other guy(s) before going to a safe zone, waiting a couple mins for rollback and logging out (instantly like before). There should be a symbol or icon on screen to show 'Combat Status'. Red and Green would work. The 'Combat Timer' should be invisible, not a visible countdown.
Torinx 36 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I also thought this would be a good way to do it, I think a lot of games use this as a method of logging out quickly and efficiently for those of us in safe and sound situations, and stopping people from doing it in those dangerous situations. I wonder if there's a reason they can't do this. Edited February 7, 2014 by Torinx
whothehellishe 81 Posted February 7, 2014 No, what you say it is not simple, what about if im sniping you from 500 meters but did not hit you?! What if im just chasing you?! What if im stalking you and waiting the right moment?! Too many things to calculate...for now this simple solution they introduced works like a charm. sYs 133 Posted February 7, 2014 Yeah thre current solution is crap. better than nothing though. If i engage target at 300meters and slowly make my way to his positions - i guess he already loged out - cause i can't make it there without runing like a retard in those 30 seconds. smoke-uk 7 Posted February 7, 2014 Exactly So what do you do? Keep shooting in intervals to keep the Combat status active. "this should be triggered by being shot at, hit, or chased by a zombie." It's all there :)
ImageCtrl 719 Posted February 7, 2014 The normal (no combat) log out system is ok.You should be blocked in a combat to log out for 5 minutes (disconnect or log out = force you to sit down for 5 min ingame)
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted February 7, 2014 The current solution is fine, it encourages you to use common sense when logging out. Find some woodland, it's everywhere, sit inside the brush of a tree and nobody will find you within thirty seconds. The system you propose is far too complex and has too many variables, the current system is simple and effective as it just makes combat loggers sit down. Korsbaek 1778 Posted February 7, 2014 Your solution still won't stop people from Alt+F4'ing.

Hosty 647 Posted February 7, 2014 You guys need to understand they tried to do this kind of thing, but it's hard to do on the engine.
smoke-uk 7 Posted February 7, 2014 Your solution still won't stop people from Alt+F4'ing.but they would still have to suffer the extended timer which gives you more time to act  and increase the risk of being killed blind.
DaMaakus 34 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I think the current system is fine. The only thing I would wish for is a "Zombie Factor".If you are targeted by an Infected, you shouldn't be able to log out.I guess you are in someway "flagged" by the AI if you get the "aggro" of a zombie. And since they are broken right now in terms of targeting, aggro range and wall clipping, this would be nice to have, at least till the final AI is in place. I don't care for people running into me while logging out, sitting in some bushes or inside a random house or shed should be enough to hide from "human eyes". But the all-seeing eyes of buggy Infected are the things that worry me.And I don't like sitting around for a minute to see if it is save to log off or if there is a Zambie chasing me from two villages ago and now slowly catching up to feast on my logged-out and idle ass. If the AI works like putting a "flag" on a player, if the Zombie is attacking, this should be like two lines of code, I guess. Lupine 14 Posted February 7, 2014 There should be no penalties for logging out or re logging trying to find a server with good connectivity.. after 3 bad servers (couldnt activate weapons or eat or drink, inventory was constantly "recieving" with 270-300 seconds each, and some how i managed to drop my revolver during one of those loggins (not sure how that managed to happen, considering i couldnt activate them) ... surely its possible to "dismiss" the penalty by looking at the connectivity level of the player?
