Rudette 435 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Do you have any bad habits from other games you've brought over into DayZ?,....One time, I shit you not, I hit F5 while crouching in concealed spot about to sneak into the airfield. I had played Skyrim so much I guess my mind thought:"Ok. Dangerous area. Let's quicksave." After I did I kind of sat there blinking like... What..what did I just do? lol.>.> Another bad habit, is that I tend to get real shifty eyed. Like the Doomguy guys little face by your health bar in Doom. But maybe that helps me more than harms me! GpB311 236 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) I still feel a desire to teabag some people who I feel deserve. Doing such things will only end in my corpse being stacked on top of the one I was teabagging in this game though.Ive only teabagged one person In DayZ and she pretended to be friendly, then attacked me as I came out of a house. My axe > her crowbar Edited February 6, 2014 by GpB311
mercules 1290 Posted February 6, 2014 In reverse: Whenever I'm in any FPS I hit 'alt' expecting to be able to free look. This, except I have a TrackIR. I keep finding myself trying to look over my shoulder by twisting my head a bit to the right or look up and down by moving my head. Playing other games you get used to hitting reload fairly often as it simply tops off the clip in your gun and is always a good idea. Even in the Mod it is not a good idea and in SA you can find yourself reloading a 60 round mag you had taken 3 shots from with a 20 round mag. Doh!
Dchil 829 Posted February 7, 2014 Looking down. It started when i was playing the COD:Modern Warfare series and i wanted a pistol all the time in single player but you don't always spawn with one. I started shooting legs as a reflex to drop em but not kill them so they'd pull a pistol that i could pick up. In Multiplayers of those games i quickly learnt that aiming high worked better than shooting legs. The Mod enhanced this bad habit because i never expected to see another player so i was constantly scanning the ground for loot. I'm trying to unlearn this habit because i usually shoot legs or miss loot placed up high in the SA which gets me killed or i die from lack of supplies. Same thing that started my bad habit with looking down also nurtured my habit of not looking further than around 50-100m. Everything in COD is considered CQB by DayZ and Arma standards. and thus i never look far enough to spot snipers and the like. Not to mention the fact that the first thing i do when i'm near a town is to just Yolo it, despite the constant reminders to check the area.

Grimey Rick 3417 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I tap Q a lot from playing Counter-Strike for over a decade. It's gotten me killed a few times. It's a habit I formed after a lot of AWP/deagle. // double taps Q after shooting Mosin // // gets stuck corner peaking with no corners in sight // // dies // Edited February 7, 2014 by Grimey Rick

zaphodity (DayZ) 41 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I think there's a common hangover, it's called "Call of Duty Syndrome." It's basically what motivates people to shoot on sight instinctively. I'm in a game with a gun, therefore I must shoot someone. In order to survive most FPS (if only for no longer than 3 minutes) you must shoot them first inorder to survive an encounter. Not so with DayZ. You will find it's beneficial for all parties concerned if you DON'T open fire. Unfortunately, most do. Old dogs, new tricks. irl-calibre 744 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) The first bad habit to break is that there is a score imo.. no points in this "game" only narrative of a story, the sooner people realise this the more fun they will have.. most stories of newbies.. "I regained consciousness on a beach.. some psycho beat me to death with their fists.. the end""I regained consciousness on a beach.. some bastards handcuffed me and fed me bleach I died.. the end""I regained consciousness on a beach.. I was shot.. the end" I know i'll go to the forums and tell them how to fix this broken game.. yadda yadda yadda.. Edited February 7, 2014 by Calibre

weedmasta 784 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I don't because I have been playing the series since the original OFP but when I see someone reloading after every second shot (on a weapon like the M4 for example), on youtube videos, I go mad. Frankie does it a lot, omg so annoying.
