It's irritating, but I don't mind as long as it actually cuts down on the amount of combat and loggers and ghosters! If you get hit by the 5min cooldown there's plenty of things to do to pass the time.

One issue I do notice is joining a game with your friends... Say I hop online, go into a server, and 20 minutes later my friend gets on and I need to hop into his server, mine being full?

Oh wait, all I have to do is wait five frickin' minutes.

Things that can take longer than five minutes:

Getting something to eat/drink.

Taking a shit.

Masturbation.

Mastication.

Spending time with loved ones.

Spending time with cats.

1/3 an episode of your favorite animated series.

a game of Loadout, a f2p game on steam

how long you might wait to respawn in Insurgency

need i continue?

The current loot system is terrible this is the main issue for me , i'm fed up running around for 30-45 minutes finding nothing when i start a new character until my player s virtually dead from lack of food and drink , i have no issue scavanging but its zero fun running in and out of buildings just tryin to keep yourself alive.

:beans: Welcome to DayZ  :beans:

I have had zero problems gearing up in one server running from town to town.  I even find plenty of food in the coastal towns sometimes.  The servers restart so damn often (can't wait until that's gone).  I never try to join a freshly restarted server.  Yet I end up finding what I need.

edit: Weren't there already 20+ threads on this addition before the patch? Now we need 50+ threads about this addition after the patch?

Okay so i completely agree with having both the timer to prevent combat loggers, and to prevent server hopping. But i think it could be handled better. First off the game is buggy. So it kinda sucks to have a timer put on you. When your game screws up and you have to exit and rejoin the same server. I think if you join the same server why should you have to wait a minute and 10?

Second I though you guys would make it to where it counts down 30 seconds and you can see whats going on. When leaving a server. To prevent combat logging. Instead of just leaving and having ur guy just standing there. I dont really want to die and not even have a chance to stop it. Because I decide to log inside a house somewhere. and someone walks in, in that 30 seconds. Heck id wait 60 seconds. As long as I could see whats going on while my char just stands there. Of course everyones going to stay. Dont log in a bad spot. But in DayZ no spot is a good spot. I dont care where you are. And i think its rediculous my char just stands there defenseless for 30 seconds thus punishing me. And i'm not even a logger. Anyone else agree?

My post on this feature after testing in Exp servers: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/170826-managing-logoutlogin-post-033114782/

Implementation details have been known for a while now, as well as the reasons why they have not implemented it in the way you suggest. You can decide to think of it as a punishment if you want, but I don't. It is a consideration only when I log off and if you aren't logging off in a safe location, then you get what you get. Sorry.

I work for a living, am lucky if I get to play an hour a night during the week, have kids, a wife, bills, drill, work six days a week and am on call 24/7 and couldn't care less about five minutes cooldown. Your argument is invalid. Remove the sand from your nether region young lady.

I could give two shits about the "combat logging" issue. Only turds that camp loot hot spots care that much about it anyway.

The fact is right now the whole game is unstable and I cannot connect to any server knowing that I will not be horribly de-synced.

So in order to find a server that is playable, I am compelled to sit through escalating timers instead of enjoying what could be a great game experience.

No thanks.

I have been around since the early days of the mod and have not had any beefs with the dev team no matter how bizarre their direction until now. This half assed cure is worse than the disease.

The idea is sound but right now given the instability of the games infrastructure this is a huge fail.

We play with a Canadian that often kills ping the moment he jumps in to our server, we have to hop round trying to find a happy medium for us all.  The timer just means I can finally go for that poo I've been putting off for the past hour, make a cup of tea or skin up.  Dunno what ya moaning about...

Just went to a server i am a PRO DAY SERVER i don't play Night and my Crew Don't Play night as well... NOT ALL SERVERS SAY DAY24/7 or Night.... It has Happen to us already.... then when we do jump to next server We have to wait. Freaking 300 Seconds? so some one on the last server can Kill our Progress cause the System thought we was server Hopping? Needs fixing

No, not all servers have proper descriptions. However, all the servers shown in the list have the time of day in game listed. Take a few minutes to actually look at the info provided.

Also, hardcore and regular is listed too so please don't move onto that as your next excuse.

I think the system now is kinda clumsy. The approach WoW takes is way better imho. If you exit the game, you get a popup with a xx sec countdown and you are unable to move. After the countdown has expired you log off and your character dissappears from the server. If you are in a hurry you can cancel the countdown and exit right away, but your character will stand in place for the remaining countdown and is able to get killed.

The current solution seems like a quick workaround to me. It also seems that after logging in you wouldnt spawn in the exact location you loggged off, but a location you visited like a minute before. That is a terrible bug and needs to be addressed asap.

So ,no beans from me for the approach they chose, let's hope it's a temporary workaround until theyve figured out something smarter, like the WoW loggoff system.

You're absolutely correct, it's a half-assed fix that a massive amount of people are upset with (take the posts on the forum disagreeing with you with a grain of salt, a lot of them are ass-kissing white knight wannabes) that they attempted instead of going after the root of the problem. I'm disgusted that not a single person on the dev team may have suggested that this is a bad idea.

actually some servers are listed as hardcore and end up being regular :/ it's a common problem with a few of the public servers

I like it because its a sign that they're heading in the right direction. If I expected them to get it right the first time every time then I may as well expect them to roll out a finished release next month, but I do not... .I respect the process. They are attempting to do some pretty cool and original things with this genre of game and for that it is worth some minor annoyances along the way. And of course "minor" is a relative term seeing as some of you prima donna's demand immediate and impeccable implementation of content.

I do feel for the minority that have stability issues, forcing them to suffer the logging penalties more frequently when they crash. All they can do is wait until stability improves,,, which it will...

patience...

go play another game for a few months...

If you can sit there and watch the 30seconds count down, people will still combat log. They will run into a house, point their gun at the door and hit exit. If you enter within the 30 seconds, they'll cancel and shoot at you, if you don't they'll log.

Letting you stay in-game for the 30seconds and giving you the ability to cancel the countdown, makes the whole system pointless.

Hi.

While I don't particularly support the watching the countdown idea either, your argument isn't really valid. If you can't kill them before they get up tic toc tic toc then equip a weapon tic toc tic toc, then you really shouldn't be trying to follow anyone into that house in the first place.

Of course my opinion is based on what I've read saying logging out makes your character sit down, If I'm wrong and you actually keep your gun shouldered then that a whole different ballgame.

Regards.

The 30sec log out i do thing could be done better. Some of the Dayz mod servers would make you wait 10sec or more before you could hit the log out button. That is just as ever bit effective. Making your character stay there while you are not even in game is pretty damn dumb in my opinion.

that timer you enjoyed, alt f4 bypassed. alt f4 cannot bypass this implementation.

The only tiny thing that bothers me is if you're joining the same server you were before.

Me and my buddy were testing video recording and i backed out a couple of times to check the audio.

it should penalize you but not if you were on the same server as you were.  It should be smart enough to recognize that this isn't server hopper behaviour.

Even then it wasn't horrible.  I only play on my server anyway.

There is no way to prevent someone from killing the process from the task manager to leave a server. Hence having a 30 second timer while you can still cancel it in-game as some suggest will never work. The current solution is great. If you can't find a place to logoff safely then you are clearly doing something wrong.

As for the actual logging off, yes there is a bug that will not spawn you exactly where you logged off at but I am sure that'll be fixed in due time.

As for you. You have made no contribution to this thread. All your posts are either insulting others or making arguments that don't make any sense.

First off there is a whole column dedicated to the time of day in the game on the server browser, so joining a wrong server because it is night or day is not an excuse. Second, why would you switch servers so often? I have played for hours yesterday, switched server 3 times and that was because server restarts, player counts going low or joining my m8s on another server and I played with 2 separate groups.

At no point did I have any problems with the server rejoin timer, why, well because I am not server hopping and by your statements and attitude you clearly are. It seems like because you have so little time to play, the game has to give you the precedence to server hop so you can gear up quickly. Well too bad the devs don't like exploiters eh?

The reason that people would be canceling the 30second timer is the same reason people are trying to quit in the first place. Because they're in a dangerous situation. This mechanic shouldn't accommodate logging off in dangerous areas/situations, since the point is to stop that.

Example of wrong server: You like playing in low character rooms. You click on one that says 3/40. You get in there and there is 15/30. Ummm..... no thanks. Not playing here.

Another Example of wrong server: You decide to play in a night room. You get in there and find it is too freakin dark. Like we are talking Gamma and brightness all the way up and the video is blurry. Yeah good luck finding fuck all in here, let alone seeing what or who that is coming straight at you.

I'd be fine with it being 60-90 secs long, but 4 mins!? That is a little excessive.
