1 computer, 2 accounts, family sharing, multiple characters

Recommended Posts

i tried loging into steam on my Computer with my Brothers steam account! and with the Family sharing beta i could start dayz with this account!

NOW MY QUESTION:

can i start playing dayz (on my brothers account on my own Computer) without losing my main steam accounts dayz-dude?

would it be somehow "safe" to make a backup of the dayz Folder stored in documents before sarting with another account on the same Computer ?

should i just rename my toon?

i am scared of starting dayz and messing something up or losing my toon!

As far as Im aware, DayZ does not participate in the family share scheme.

but it Shows up, when i log in with my Brothers account. there is a new section in the library called "brumey's library"! and there i could start it!

Are you actually able to start it?

Ive seen this library some times before, when my brother logges into his account, but we have never been able to start the game, unless he actually owns it aswell.

As far as im aware, any actions taken on your brothers account should not interfere with your own. With the exception of breaking rules which would punish both accounts.

which rules are broken!

isnt Family sharing meant to work like this ?

i am afraid to start the game (as my brother on my computer) cuz it might mess something up with my current toon on my own steam account!

there is something saved in documents Folder which is not connected with my steam account, but with my Windows account!

maybe go the super safe route and even log into Windows as a seperate user ?

COULD SOMEONE CLARIFY WHAT DAYZ SAVES IN MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER ?

The only thing that would affect it is your Steam account. As long as you log in on different steam accounts=no issues. It literally cannot mess up your character. The only thing saved in the mydocs/dayz +dayz other profiles folders are your keybinds and settings

You configs, for your "name" basicly.

It saves no information about your actual character on the HIVE, its more user graphic settings and all that stuff, local stuff.

You can delete the folder and log straight into your toon, but the graphics and controls will go back to default.

Just to be clear, I can get a second steam account and play either one from the same PC essentially having 2 characters for hardcore and two characters for regular just by logging in to the two different steam accounts? I will not have to mess with the Dayz files and this wont (baring a bug/glitch) mess up the saves?

I have been thinking about doing this because I now play with friends on hardcore and regular and don't want to spend hours when I play alone getting back to where they logged out to log out myself or spend an hour running back to each other when we log on becasue i went somewhere alone. One account would become my solo play account, the other my group play account if that makes sense.

In theory, as long as you're wiling to shell out $30 for each character/DayZ license, and you have multiple steam accounts, the two characters/config files should *not* interfere with each other. Oddly enough, I'm strongly considering doing this, too. I play with friends a couple times per week, and I want the freedom of playing on my own without the risk of killing off my "group" character. I'm willing to spend the extra $30 to do so.

I mean, think about it. If you buy a PS4/XB1 game, you're spending $60 plus tax, right? This would be the same thing.

a character, a cartoon, a representation of the player in game.

Also, a supporter of Newcastle United Football Club.
