I can't set/change my name.

Recommended Posts

Whenever I go into the character creation and create a new character, I try to click on the "PLAYER 1" in the character name slot. Nothing happens. I've been playing on servers as PLAYER 1 for hours now because I can't type in the player name field. Any idea why guys?

Did you try clicking edit or double clicking the name...? Press the backspace button?

Got the same problem here...

@TV.: your link leads nowhere, just a 'File not found.' page.

@salty: can you read the posts before replying with nonsense ?

@Whiteshadow197: if you go to your 'arma 2 operation arrowhead' and remove your 'PLAYER%201.ArmA2OAProfile' file (or other ueseless profiles) the game will create one with your Windows name automatically. Not the best of course but that's already better maybe. Adding other profile files by duplication and rename doesn't work. The game doesn't take them into account (in our case). All that might be linked to a security issue...

Alright I found what the "problem" was in MY case (don't know if this is the same for you but must be somehow related). Here's what I posted on another thread here : http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/18383-help-with-my-profile-name/

"Well ok it turned out to be a security problem linked to my Windows documents folder which is only accessible through VPN because it's on a server. ArmA 2 stores player info in there in an ArmA 2 folder and of course it was not accessible while I was not on the VPN. Once again the developers of the game could have taken this potential case into account and allow creation in the game folder (like they actually do with that PLAYER 1 profile or the windows name profile automatically created but not editable in-game).

But they forgot about that..."

use dayz commander to launch dayz under the settings tab, or launch arma2.exe. when you get to the menu screen it should be the first screen.

click on "player profile" inside the profiles menu you should see your default name ( probably something windows has set for you ) there are 3~4 options.

Delete

New

Edit

Click on new to make a new profile. After you made a new profile click ok and search for your server. after you get into a server make sure you reconfig your controls/ and settings. as they are reset to default
