VHF multi-channel two-way radios

Recommended Posts

Portable/Mobile radios have limited range (up to a few kilometers, depending on geography) and multiple channels.

Think about that for a moment. Such a device, if used in-game, could be used to communicate with other random players in the (very) local vicinity -- presuming they have one too.

Here's a proposal for such a device, and how it could be incorporated into the game:

  • Takes two nine-volt batteries.
  • When badly damaged, it can no longer broadcast a signal. Could still be useful for listening. Ruined radios only spit out static.
  • To speak through the radio, you equip it, and then use the in-game voice broadcast. This broadcasts your voice to any other radio that is currently on and switched to that channel (and within range).
  • As the range falls-off, the voices coming through get more and more static-y.
  • When equipped, left-click changes the channel. Has 8-channels.
  • If inventory is an issue, this could be attached to your hip, or to a utility belt of some sort (please please please).
  • Leaving the radio on, in your inventory, still allows for broadcasts to come through (on its set channel). Not recommended if you're trying to be stealthy.
  • Could be used to initiate commands with buddies from a long-distance away, without having to rely on third-party programs such as teamspeak. Could use this radio to coordinate with a team of snipers to hit targets simultaneous from different angles.
  • Could be used to communicate with bandits/friendlies from a distance. Could immensely add to tension, or could immensely de-escalate tension (depending on the situation).
  • Eavesdropping on a channel could lead to getting the drop on someone (or multiple parties that are communicating).
  • Could be used to ask for help when things get really rough (this is obviously risky, but beats dying).

If this were to be implemented, a radio scanner may be another possible item.

Also, you are all sexy beasts and I probably love you.

They spent months working on a radio system already.

I wasn't aware -- thanks for the heads up. Still probably some unique ideas to take from the post, regardless.

Here's what I want when vehicles are put in. The ability to play your own music on the car radios. You can do this in APB Reloaded, so really the DayZ debs could just implement a similar system. Just drag the desired MP3's into a "music" folder in the game files. Would make driving interesting and.... YES IMAGINE A PARTY BUS DRIVING AROUND THE MAP PLEASE ROCKET LOOK AT THE POSSIBILITIES.... *ahem* like I was saying, it would add a very eerie, personal feeling to the game. Either way , decent post

You can find them in game and they work..... called transmitters

How does it work ? As far as I knew it wasn't anything productive(dunno if that's the right word haha) , more like some weird Easter egg.. Anyone got info on how the transmitters work ?

Man, I should think up ideas more often -- only to find out that they're actually true. Maybe present me controls the developers from the past with my mind...

That being said, I still want voices to be static-y with distance falloff. You know, if it's not already there. And leaving the thing on in your inventory.

Also, if they really are in game, how come I haven't come across one in my dozens of hours of play? They seem more rare than can openers.
