Is it worth owning or renting a Dayz standalone server yet?

Recommended Posts

Is it worth owning or renting a Dayz standalone server yet?? Or should I wait till "reserved slots" are implemented and the SA server rules are fairly rewritten, not only for players, but for server owners? Those of you currently own or rent a DayZ server, what are your thoughts?

I dont own a server, but i used to host a server for the mod, about a year ago.
I can say atm theres really not much to hosting a public server.

You cant do anything, other then restarting once in a while and kick someone if you think they are cheating basicly.

Theres no password, no whitelist, no costumization at all :)

So if you want a public server, where you can play, if theres room, and nothing else really, go ahead.
If not, wait for private servers to come along and get more rights as an Admin.

My 2 cents

It all depends on your intention for running the server, I currently still run a public DayZ Mod server,

and will be starting up and Public SA DayZ server soon, I don't play the game much, I'm here to help the game progress and help the community.

If your planning on running a server for your clan and or a group of friends, you would be better off waiting for

SA DayZ private servers due to the rules put in place with the SA Public servers.

But if like myself and you want to host a server to help out in the community and progress the game then

jump on board and rent a server. But the servers are buggy as the game is still in early Alpha.

So its your choice. :)

I rented one because I couldn't find any hardcore servers on the west coast, and the central US servers are generally always almost empty. Basically it was so I could have a server to play on, but it seems to be pretty popular, compared to the other hardcore servers I've seen. I guess it depends if you consider warm fuzzies of seeing people on your server "worth it". For me having a populated hardcore to play on is pretty worth it.
