Restrictive servers

So a quick question. I noticed on certain servers that there are barriers built around good loot spots, like military medical tents, hospitals, and every vehicle I come across is locked. I did hear a conversation where one person was buying a helicopter. Is there some sort of currency I can be earning somehow? Are these things violating server rules? Is this something I have to spend actual cash money to use? Or should I just avoid these servers altogether? Any help on this would be swell.

P.S. If I find some lean to out in the woods with a bunch of loot, weapons, food, medical supplies, am I a dick to take it? 8)

Because we dont have any barriers in the Stand Alone yet, and sure as hell no vehicles yet :)

No your are in the right place for discussion in the Mod. However you seem to be playing Epoch, which is different to the original mod. In epoch there are safe zones where you can buy items for gold which you get by selling items. For example you could trade an Empty AK for 3 gold, then use that gold to buy a large assortment of things like other weapons, cars and survival gear. These safe zones are usually up north so check your in game map(they usually spawn you with one) and look for some marked areas that say "_______ Trading Zone" or similar and you will find them.

 

As for the barriers, Base buklding is allowed in Epoch and the easiest way for somebody to get a base is to wall off all the doors of a open building and put in a new door which is locked by them. This leads to places like NWAF having entire hangers walled off. This  can be frustrating, especially when the only rifle you have seen is sitting inside one of these areas when you can't get to it.

Thanks Dchil, this explains a lot. Can I remove a piece of a barricade if I can find a toolbox? It seems that the loot is really scarce on the server I am referencing, and I kinda want to stick it to the folks doing it. It just makes for a very unbalanced pvp environment. Maybe I shouldn't go back, but I sort of see it as a challenge. I think the people who rent the server are just tearassing around in choppers wasting spawns.

As far as I know the only way to do this is with lots of ammo, or explosives. You need to destroy them because they can't just be dismantled unless you own them. You can do it with a hatchet but i once spent a half an hour trying to hit down a cinder block wall.
