AlexSledge 0 Posted February 4, 2014 So, it's been brought up in our group a few times to consider DayZ (Standalone) as a possible group title for the next few months (depends how well it holds our interest), and I've been nominated to do the research, however there are some outstanding questions before any of us decide to buy the game. It's understood that the title is still "early release"/"Alpha" - so we can understand that there might be some restrictions preventing us from picking up the title. As software engineers we understand controlled testing environments. The forums are a confusing mess (you should really consider retiring/archiving everything related to the ARMA 2 modification, and focus on the future which is your paid title - IMO), so it seems easier to approach the discussion this way... Below are the group requirements for any investment in the game: 1) We're going to set up a private passworded server. There are decades of experience behind this decision, we're sure you're nice and all, but our MonkeySpheres are already pretty full.2) We don't care if the server IP is "officially" blacklisted, whatever "bad thing" would get the server shunned by the community, so long as our group can play on it. We certainly don't care about the silly things such as Steam achievements, rankings, etc... Impacting our VAC standings for any reason specific to our private server would become a legal issue. If some of the group go off on public servers and be a menace, they get what they get. (IANAL, but it was requested I mention this)3) No access will be given to the server itself for anyone besides our few administrators, ever. Again, legal reasons primarily.4) We plan to manage the server as we choose, and to restrict the DayZ server application's access to the resources allocated to the virtual host as we deem necessary.5) We're unlikely to be filing any bug reports of any kind. Nothing personal, but software engineering is the day job of about 80% of our group, so we're not looking for that in our entertainment. (Well, most of us aren't :)6) We would expect the same patches and updates as the rest of the public at large.7) If the functionality exists, we will disable any/all reporting to a 'central server' for server listing purposes to avoid any confusion on who may join. Our group will be connecting directly via IP to the group server.8) It's unlikely we'll mess with any modifications, but if there are some truly useful or interesting ones, we might consider their use at some point. I guess this doesn't really need to be in the list, more of a personal "thinking out loud" statement. =D So, here's the question.... given the above restrictions, is DayZ something to consider for purchase at this time, or should we park it for some time in the future when the game is able to be utilized with the above restrictions? Thanks for any responses. Peace! "My ears only hear the words of men, my eyes see only apes playing at divinity."

byrgesen 1341 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) You will be able to do 99% of what you want, once we get private servers mate. But the isnt any ETA on it yet, so you just have to wait :) If you rent a Public HIVE DayZ server, you cant do anything other then kicking cheaters and restarting it every couple of hours, basicly. Not much else is allowed on the public servers. as for putting a pw on a server you can i found that out last night when i was ask for one when trying to join a serverOfc its possible, but its not "legal" on a public server.I hope you reported said server mate. fitzee 248 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi. Pretty sure what you want is a private hive server. They aren't available yet. Locked puplic hive servers aren't allowed because groups can exploit them as an easy gearing up server before going to pvp on the other servers. Regards. AlexSledge 0 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for all the responses! We'll keep a look out for private hive support in the future.
byrgesen 1341 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for all the responses! We'll keep a look out for private hive support in the future. That would be your best bet mate.If you password a server atm, it will get blacklisted and all connection to the HIVE will be cut, it might even get shut down without notice. (assuming someone reports it ofc)So character saving wont happen :)
