Thanks, Green Beret!

Recommended Posts

I don't know where I should be posting this, but today I was playing on a WA based server, and came across a very kindly fellow.  He could hear that I was hurt, and called out asking if I needed help.  We approached each other, and he claimed to be a "Green Beret" who wanders the land looking for people who need help.

I refused healing, but we ended up trading - I gave him some food and he gave me a revolver.  Really not a fair trade at all, but he seemed not to mind.  He also politely asked me not to shoot him in the back when he left.

Thanks again - it's always nice to run into a genuinely friendly player.

Hey man, lovin' my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI! I've owned it for twelve years now and have almost 400,000km on it! Still going strong!

TL;DR:

Thanks Germany! <3

We simply call them arsehole's   :D It's much harder, much more difficult being the good guy. But awareness will save you on most occasions.

fix't

I started the game helping people. That was fun for a while. Searching for people in need, bandaging them, giving them saline, feeding them, protecting them, etc. I eventually grew tired of being attacked/betrayed by people. Then I began holding people up and robbing them. That was really fun for a while. Then people discovered that when they're being held-up, they can simply combat log while their hands are raised. That's why I shoot anyone with a gun on-sight (for the most part). I spare new spawns and those who're not coming near me. I don't go on a rampage searching for every other player I can for the simple pleasure of killing them. When people stray into my path who're armed to the teeth, I eliminate them.

When the new patch drops and combat logging has been properly addressed, I'll go back to being the semi-friendly bandit who enjoys holding you up, restraining you, sifting through your bags, and then letting you go, all the while enjoying semi-polite/goofy small talk. I refuse to go the medic route again; it's not fun at all. If that's what you enjoy, great. I won't stop you. Nor will I denounce how you play the game on the forums. All I ask is that all of you judgemental people claiming there's only one way to play the game do the same.

Cheers.

I mean it's harder to stay alive while playing the good guy. I too, no longer do this. I rarely kill on sight, unless I think they are a threat. I don't even attempt talking to anyone holding a gun now either. Every man for him self ;-)

You actually only supported his statement about it being "much harder". Whether you find it boring is a subjective evaluation, while the degree of difficulty of that kind of behaviour is not.

I was up at Berezino looking for medical supplies in the hospital, bumped into a newish spawn, halfway up the stairs.. i was well armed, he had just a melee weapon.  We got chatting, when we hear two more people..they want to interact.  These two new spawns turn up.. one with no trousers! Never a good sign!

The one with no trousers asks if I have a spare weapon.. kindness came over me and i put down a loaded magnum.  However i did not want to hang around and get shot.  As there was some server/loot lag i told the 3 a magnum would appear on the ground very soon, in the middle of all 3 of them and i left the building quickly and took up position in an over looking building.  I was expecting a scramble for the gun followed by shooting!  Didn't happen, the one who asked me for a gun got the gun and they all went their separate ways without any violence.

I think getting robbed by you might actually improve my game experience.  For me, the KOS thing is a little disappointing, because it doesn't involve much player interaction.  I like that it's there because it makes interactions way more tense and paranoid, I'm just not excited for when this inevitably happens to me.

I'm going to try friendly interactions for as long as it seems fun, but I really can't imagine ever giving a stranger a gun.
