AnarchyBrownies 1383 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I couldn't find this topic and when I googled it there was a lot of wishy washy discussion going on. No one seems quite certain so I wanted to ask the question here: Can you shoot through walls/floors? I ask because I was hiding here: I had to hide here because I was shot at running in the Northwest Airfield. So I took refuge here and I started hearing voices down below. Eventually one guy climbed the ladder and I waited until he had to round that bend on the upper level (the one I'm pretty much looking at in the picture). Once he rounded that bend I shot at him and killed him with a pistol right when he appeared at the window. I took his M4 then crouched behind the wall beside the doorway to this little room. I leaned and stared at that entrance down below and sure enough another guy eventually poked his head around the corner and I shot and killed him. Right after I killed him I went back into a prone position (perfectly straight, not angled like in the picture) and waited for a few seconds. All of a sudden my guy got lit up. I died fairly quickly but it looked like I was bleeding out of my upper body (left hand side) before I died. So can you get shot through walls by an M4? If so, it was a good kill! When I died right off the bat I thought it was a good kill. They had come one at a time and were just getting picked off, so it was a smarter plan for them to shoot through the walls where I was. But if you have to cheat to do that then that makes me a sad panda :( EDIT: This may have belonged in New Player discussion! Sorry about that! Hopefully mods move this if need be. TheLastEmp 295 Posted February 2, 2014 In standard ARMA, yeah definitely. In DayZ SA... I have no idea. We need a "mythbusters" episode by PsiSyndicate

AnarchyBrownies 1383 Posted February 2, 2014 If it exists in ARMA II, I'm guessing it applies to DayZ SA as well. Nice video Frosti, I got quite a laugh out of that. But it doesn't answer the question 100%. You can shoot through a wooden fence but what about the walls of the building I was in? I think you SHOULD be able to shoot through the building I was in. The walls seem kind of tinny.
djporternz 644 Posted February 2, 2014 Not sure what the ballistics model in DayZ is, but if they could implement the ArmA 3 model, I'd be more than happy.
sanguinius51 13 Posted February 2, 2014 There was limited penetration in Arma 2: OA. Both of walls and vehicles.

If they ever implement the Arma III ballistics system i'd be oh so happy; the stances system would be awesome too sick of spending 5 minutes moving around trying to get things off the top of shelves. On Topic:But yes i believe (could be wrong) bullets penetrate most things currently if you're up close at least, although i haven't gone out of my way to test myself so i'm interested to know / see if materials are working so brick houses are harder to penetrate than tin, wood, etc i'd imagine that should already be working though as i imagine that'd be a pain in the ass to add for them down the line. Agreed. Stances... Mmmmm yaaa.... But since they refer to the engine as RV2.5 I'd assume ArmA 2 version ballistics. Unfortunately there is no video that I can find that tries to demonstrate the ballistic penetration in that engine. I agree, also, that if the model isn't in there ATM, it may be difficult to regig later.
AnarchyBrownies 1383 Posted February 2, 2014 Thanks for the answers! I think it's safe to conclude I was shot through the floor or wall. The shots were close so distance wouldn't have been a factor.
weedmasta 784 Posted February 2, 2014 Not sure what the ballistics model in DayZ is, but if they could implement the ArmA 3 model, I'd be more than happy. Highly unlikely to happen as they would have to rewrite parts of the engine again.
