Long range scope as binoculars/telescope

So I have a long range scope in my backpack, but no mosin to attach it too, which is totally fine. For some reason I thought I could use it without the weapon, and tried to equip the scope. Turns out I can't, and I don't see why you shoudn't be able to use it. Survival game, use everything to your advantage eh? Thoughts? 

 

I tried to find similar threads, but no success. Hope this is not  just "one of those threads".

It is confirmed. Just like the Weapon Torch can be used sepparately.
