Couple of noob questions

Any help appreciated...

What is the best way to figure out where you are at spawn? With it usually being pitch black, I just head east or west along the coast soon as I stumble on to the highway or railroad. Last night i finall found a large village with some tank monuments and finally, a well, which with 3 other toons I had yet to find. One sign I saw was Riopka? 3 km. couldn't figure the top city. When I tried to find it on the maps I found here there was no Riopka. What is the best way to find location in the dark?

How long does that battery last with moderate usage.?

Have yet to find a gun or ammonywhere. Found a scope no more. Found 4 deer stands, nothing.. Just axes a couple times which are good.

This game seems to warrant a clan or at least a friend or two. Can get boring alone as it would if real for sure.

Have a ton of questions but am trying to get answers throughout the guides and videos. One good one was which med supplies work or not...saves a lot of inv space, although only once did I find a backpack...4 with my current toon, no other. 4 spots makes it tough. Water has been my biggest problem.

i used izurvive for the first few days of playing its a phone app with the whole map and a search function by typing approximatly whats written on the town signs it will bring that town up on the map . Also i noticed that night time shadows come approx from southern direction hope this helps

Run to a town, find the town sign, go to DayZDB and look at a map (or just do it the old fashioned way and just explore without a map. It's actually more fun than you think!)

 

Mosins are found throughout the map try larger buildings, agricultural buildings (cattle sheds etc) and you should find one. M4s and other military hardware are only found at airbases or military bases.

Finding where you are comes with experience. I have played both the SA and Mod for months and still can't find anything that isn't on the coast.

Deer stands don't spawn anything as yet.

Try and learn some basic cryllic (what the signs are in) i tried learning how to read it and it helped me immensely in game (but don't ask me to read anything in full cryllic cause i wont have a clue).

For guns look in firestations, school(office) buildings and cars for your weapons. They give the highest return for their risk. NEAF seems to be unpopulated most of the time i'm there so try there if you must visit an air base.

As for water, when ever you see a well, and it is safe to do so, spam it till you are full. 

For more inventory slots put on other clothes. When you open your gear around clothes then they show you how many pockets they have and what is in them.

1. Ty...been looking at maps to get an idea of my spawn..but I cannot see the ROPKA ish city anywhere.  The other looks like HNKXHOE  lol  are there fixed spawn points?  if so anyone know where they are?

I think you are near Gorka. East from you, on the coast, is Berezino...look at the map starting from there, you are just few km west.

The other sign you see might be nizonhie (I never recall the correct name), on the south east of Gorka.

You are not far from kranostav, and this the NE airfield :)

There are atm 19 fixed spawns, only 1 not on the coast (in stary sobor). I can not tell where you spawned by your position, you have walked a lot.

Well, at least you are understanding your position. Then, with the sun, you will be able to find east and west :)

DayZDB map and compass, then your set. All you gotta do is find a street sign.

 

if you cannot find any military bases, then try looting hospitals and the large office buildings, the very top floor is a military spawn and can often have an M4, Mosin, shotgun, and both pistols. (not all at once of course)

 

not sure about the battery life, but I know the gas lamps seem to run out fairly quickly.

And back packs can be found pretty much in any building...anywhere loot can spawn.

The best way I've found to find your location while around the coast is to look at the coast line. Look for islands, docks etc. and then use a map online and see if you can find anything that looks like what you see. I have around 50 hours played on the SA and 0 on the mod, and I can now some What tell where I'm at on the coast without having to look at a map.

As for drinking, use wells often and drink 3-5 more time after you get the stuffed message. You can also drink from ponds, it is completely safe right now, but I think that that will change once diseases are put in and it might be a bit more risky.

Just a advice, since you spawn recently, be very careful if you spawn on a city or village, many bandit players hide on does spots to take advantage of new fresh born players, blood or just for having fun with them...Ok for the blood it's acceptable.
