Sharing Pc For Dayz

Recommended Posts

This is my problem:

I bought DayZ for like 3 weeks ago and have been playing it non-stop, and today my brother made himself a steam account and bought it aswell. The thing is that we share the same gaming pc, and when he logs into his own steam user, and joins a server at DayZ, he spawns as my character.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

And sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language.

Change the names on both of the characters, you can do this soon as you load up DayZ you will see your name in the bottom right corner click on it and change it on both to not the same, see if that works..

TedZ: It did not work, but I have a update on the problem.

It seems like our steam profiles are kinda linked together, because he has access to all the games I have downloaded from my steam account. I guess if we some how seperate our steam profiles it will solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What you could try is:

You: Log in. Use 'steam mover' (I think it's called)

You: Move your dayz folder to a different location using the software you downloaded.

Brother: Probably has to re-download dayz..

If any files are connected to accounts inside the directory, this should solve it. Failing that, I have no idea!

One of you has to uninstall the game and re-install it to another location. when you install a game, you can choose its location.

it is recommended that each steam login has a separate directory in which their games install.

No need to uninstall now. use steam mover  It can even move the full steam directory too.

if you have the internet bandwidth to download it quickly, like i do, it is a much cleaner option to create a new directory and reinstall the games. but steam mover is a great alternative.

I see you guys is saying the same thing, so I think you guys have found the solution. The thing is I don't get how I am supposed to create two different locations to save games for the two different steam users. I need a detailed guide on how to do it (no steam mover, I can dowload the games).

I just deleted DayZ from my steam account, and when I tried to download it again, I got no option to choose different location to

if you uninstall the game, delete the game folder or it wont ask where you want it. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Dayz

then when you go to reinstall the game a window which shows the default directory will appear and you can change it there.

photobucket is down so i cant link a screenshot. give it a try.
