Sleeping-And Regeneration.

There are plenty of problems to come across in the land of survival, but I've never noticed sleep deprivation.

 

When you bleed, you have two options- Bleed out, or bandage up! But you still have a problem if you bandage up.. You've lost a lot of blood, and what a pain it is to get it back. 

 

When night falls, and temperature drops, you have the ability to set up camp. Get a fire going, and a tent. I don't know if you can sleep in the game yet, but if you can-It should regenerate blood that you have lost.

 

With sleep deprivation, and no time to sleep, maybe coffee can be implemented, ground beans, or not, it only takes hot water to make a cup of joe. Or try eating the coffee beans, good luck with that I guess. It's all to keep you marching on.

 

And one last thing, if the critiques want to just flat out say,"NO." Please explain why, It's retarded.

I agree we need some kind of sleep mechanic. However how to implement it? Should we go to sleep when logging off? Or would sleep simply be something you choose, but lasts in-game time only 5 minutes or so? It's tricky. I personally prefer the log off mechanic, as most players would find that acceptable as they are not playing 24/7. But then there's the problem of lack of realism, Ie when you sleep you should be vulnerable somewhat, to either predators (not yet, but when we have animals possibly) or other humans/players.

 

I'd definitely like to see how this could be handled and hear Rocket's opinions on this.

you regenerate blood if you have a healthy status. To get a healthy status you must eat everything and drink lots of water

To choose to sleep when logging off would make the most sense, and be the most convenient.. But the ability to power nap would be great for near death situations, to just relax and rest.

Hmm interesting.

I kinda like this idea, but im also thinking "do people really want to play a game, where they need to sleep"?
Dont get me wrong, its a perfectly realistic suggestion and in a real life scenario, people would most definitely need to sleep, more or less, depending on the situation.

 

But this is a game, and where do we draw the line?

Is having an ingame sleep mechanic to much?

How would you see this implemented?

 

I can understand the "sleep while you are logged off" theory, posted above, but it will be an inconsistant number of hours slept and at random times aswell, doesnt make sense in my head.

As far as a "power-nap" goes, not a bad idea, but this game is run on real time, not "speedy fantasy time" like most other games, so would you actually have a black screen for 10-20 mins while powernapping?
If its only for 30 secs or so, whats the point?

 

Ive got mixed feelings here, ive seen this done in at least one of the DayZ mods, and it was for a couple of seconds, to get fully rested, so you would burn energy slower.
I just dont like having to sleep for 30 secs, every once in a while, and i truly dont think anyone would enjoy having a black screen for 10 mins.

What are your thought on implementation?
Im trying to understand, but its hard hehe. :)

Yeah I like this idea but it has been suggested a few times. My take was basically sleep on log out (up to a maximum of 8-10 hours) which allows you to recuperate dependent on nutritional state and the state of your 'camp' (e.g. roughing it, in a bed, in a tent, sleeping bag, fire/no fire etc). You should also become hungry and thirsty in accordance with the length of time you sleep (up to the maximum 8-10 hours). The max time is so that if you don't play for an extended period of time (days/weeks) then your character doesn't die of hunger/thirst.

Let there be more benefits based on how  you slept, such as in a bed, tent, or in the grass. If you sleep outside in the grass, wake up sick. If you sleep in a tent, wake up thirsty. If you sleep in a bed, hold your water better, go longer without needs. Know what I'm saying? 

 

I hate suggesting things that would be difficult to implement. It would just be really neat.

As much as this idea sounds good and "fun", i think we need to consider the amount of work it requires vs. the end result.

Is it worth all the hours of programming to get this?

Especially when you want this amount of variables, put into the "feature", the coding becomes much more complex and the chances of it going "ohh fuck you!" is alot bigger :)

Once you get blood loss, then you get thirsty and can drink considerable amount of liquid to replenish the blood.

That is actually the weirdest thing in DayZ, that drinking liquids doesn't replenish your blood, but ton of solid food does.

 

Sleeping doesnt really offer any immersion or anykind of purpose. Sure you could add penalties, but then it becomes

more of an annoyance (specially for people whom play little at a time). Think the sitting option works just as fine in terms of resting, 

while you are exhausted or sick.

Currently if you've been eating and drinking enough you start to regenerate blood quite fast.

 

What i'd like to see is sleeping speeding up this process. It would be optional to either wait longer to get your blood back or you can just go to your tent or whatever and go to sleep,leaving yourself vulnerable but getting blood back considerably faster.
