Fanfic/discussion; What Happened To Chernarus?

"As i ordered the remnants of my army to defend the airfield. I ordered my men for immediate evacuation of this damn place. This decease spread quickly, efficient and without mercy. Perhaps it's mother nature way to say it's time to go extinct"

Chernarus, once a place sprawling with inteligent life. Now a forsaken place where people kill people.

What happened? How would the timeline be? Will we ever find out?

 

 

Let's start with the decease.

 

So far, once a person is attacked. No symptoms are shown, indicating the zombies are not "contagious". However, as new zombie AI and system is underway. I can only assume this will change.

However, as for discussion matter. i'll continue with the current behaving system ( or how they should behave like) that's now. 

 

We do not know if the decease spreads airborne, through contact ( and when dead reanimate) or through other ways. But what i can tell you is that they can be killed with a few shots in the torso, HEADSHOTS are not neccesary to kill a specimen.

 

How did it end up killing an entire region?

 

Biochemical weapon? accidental manmade virus? Mutation of some wicked decease?

 

Did this decease affect other places/countries? Is it global? Continental? Regional? Local?

 

What do we know?

 

No signs of sentient human life have been reported to be found in Chernarus. Leaving us to assume this decease killed 99.99% of the chernarian people. Only leaving the survivors that we play alive.

(and that's not even confirmed they're even chernarian...)

 

 

What happened when the decease struck? Did events occur across Chernarus, or did the decease spread from one area and spread outward? Did the military tried to do something about this or did they respond to late? Did they flee?

 

 

The lack of military equipment in most locations leaves me to believe the military either evacuated the populace from the mayor cities, ran while they could, or started killing off civilians to reduce the imminent infection count.

 

What i'm also prone to believe is that the military did everything to protect themselves. Since most of the militaries (zombies ofcourse) are found near military bases. with very few in cities and rural areas. Also most if not all military loot can be found in the baracks or airfields. Ultimately believe they fled using helicopters and airplanes. Perhaps bringing with them Chernarian civilians. Although i doubt their military had enough time to respond.

No military would be this lackfull in protecting their peole. Perhaps sabotage from within? Assassinated leaders, then a terrorist strike with the use of Biochem.Weapons?

 

Another question is; How fast did the infection spread?

Did it take days? months, hours?

 

Where did it start?

Coastal? People would have fled by boat, and possibly bringing the infection with them. spreading to other locations. but the spread would be slow. Months

Inland? Then the infection could spread to everywhere very quickly (days perhaps)

Did the infection start from everywhere? Like everybody started to get sick very quickly. Maybe that's the reason the military had no chance to resond since they were suddenly in the middle of it. Perhaps most of the populace was dead in hours.

 

Did other countries investigate?

 

The abundance of M4's and magnums can prove that the US/NATO came in to investigate. Perhaps that the military zombies are indeed NATO troops With the chernarian military fleeing. Perhaps they asked for assistance during the spread. Indicating the spread took weeks/months to develop to the end stage.

 

 

How about loot?

 

Most of the foods are still edible. even found fresh fruits in homes. Perhaps the date of where we play are perhaps just a few days?

 

 

 

Here's a fanfic timeline

 

 

Day 0

People reported to feel ill in the shoreline towns and cities.

Day 3

First death are reported to unknown virus.

Day 4

First unofficial reports of reanimated people attacking the living.

Day 5

Officials denying these claims and asks the populace to remain calm- Military send to contain this virus

Day 8

survivors from the coastal cities happens to find a way outside the quarantine. Spreading the message of a zombie plague

Day 12-15

Quarantine breached, military starts retreating. Orders people to remain at home and to have a large stock of supplies until help arrive- surrounding areas start closing borders and reinforces military presence.

Day 15-30

Infection spread to most cities and towns. Most of the populace is dead or infected- government asks help from surrounding countries. 

Day 30-50

Chernarian military fought valliantly, but has been eradicated due to swarming and lack of supplies. VIP's have fled the country- NATO agrees to send help and investigation teams 

Day 50-60

NATO arrives, but is unable to maintain a foothold and is forced to retreat.

Day 60-???

Infection kills 99.99% of the people. The few survivors have to fight for what's left.

 

 

Now, i know it's a Tl;dr post. But this is a forum for christ sake. Just read it and post your opinion!

I found an american flag on the standard military green tactical shirt so i assume ether USA had a direct involvement with the fighting in general to help ppl or a mixed unit from NATO as some suggested got involved.

Well I don't see very much american stuff... no Canadian flags, no Brazilian flags, no Peruvian flags, no Venezuelan flag... :P

Also, with a death rate of 99.99%, and a server size of 40, that would mean this region of South Zagoria has a population of 400 000, but maybe I'm taking you too literally now.

And I don't think a nation which was recently struck with civil war and uses an all-volunteer militia as its defence force would be able to defend a border province of the nation, and I do not think that there really is any lack of guns either...
