The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Recommended Posts

So you agree that playing with friends or making a clan in DayZ ruins the game as much as using TS?

Yes. :)

Unless you only communicate with your clanmates/friends ingame. ;)

Not sure how you would prevent this. You could be sneaky and test for the Skype or TeamSpeak process and prevent the game from starting ... but is this legal, would it be considered invasion of privacy.

This is a tough to even enforce ... and if it could be enforced ... would you want to. Not sure.

Yeah exactly. Ill just pull up TS on a second computer and talk to my friends lol.

Here is a way it could be implemented into TS at least.

If BIS and TS worked together they could integrate it into TS that if you where on a server with a person in TS between you the radios would work in TS as they do ingame and if you use TS you talk ingame.

This way Friends using ts in the same channel on the same server would have the ingame restrictions of needing a radio and talking ingame when they talk in TS.

This works as shown already in ACRE.

The problem with ACRE was that you could turn off your plugin

If it was built into TS you would not be able to turn it off.

I know some tards would use other progs to circumvent the process but hey some people will use outside methods to win no matter what is tried to stop them.

Can't you 3rd party VoIP advocates see a difference between using Teamspeak in a game like Quake/Counterstrike/Planetside 2 and using it in DayZ ?

Don't tell me I'm the only who sees the difference...

but having clanmates/friends in the game is cheating. a fresh spawned character knows nobody in chernarus. friends are a gamebreaking easy-mode cheat.

I don't think you thought that through. How is that any different than not using TS at all?

One way that it could be dealt with is by using the TS3 overlay that they use for other ARMA mods like ACRE, it basically means that in order to speak to someone they have to stand right next to you, or if they are far away in-game then you have to shout, makes it more realistic, like if a heli is hovering above you then you have to shout to speak to the person next to you, not quite sure how this could be implemented in-game, but it works on TS

Is that in the lore ?

Idk I think the whole "you don't know anyone in chernaurus" argument borderlines on it being a strict RP game, which I don't really think is its main purpose.

Yes, it has multiple elements of an RP game, but I think RPing in a game like this is really more of a choice rather than a necessity.

It's a survival game first, the RPing is up to the player imo :)

Direct chat VOIP works in a similar fashion. The further you are away the more you have to shout until one point when it is too far and you can't hear them. There is no solution to this, trust me using a TS overlay won't change anything.

I totally do not agree with the OP, but I'd so love going to the northern hills north/north-east of nwaf and shout and have my voice echo through the valley, only to have some random douchebag shout back "f*** you asshole!"

the issue is not Teamspeak 3 as a single application. there is a ton of different VoiP tools, as well as other assets and aspects that create a "meta-game". the whole anti-voip crusade is the attempt to force a certain purist gameplay approach on everybody, while hypocritically ignoring other aspects of metagaming

You can, if both of you have a transmitter in game and are on the same channel  :)

only way to fix this is to force open mics in dayz.

So anytime you talk for teamspeak or mumble you are also heard in game trying to talk to yourself.

Would work in game too no longer would you fumble to remember what button it is to talk.

Again brings us back to people using phones/laptops/other hardware for comms. So not really no.

I am sure the whole of Chernarus would be highly entertained listening to my wife quarreling with my daughters.. but to be honest, this would really detract from the "realism" feeling..

Not to mention this gives the people who circumvent this little tweak a significant advantage over people who play the suggested "force VOIP"

I see this as an idea with good intentions, but as we all know, the people who don't want to play by the rules never will :)

Point is not to stop everyone from using this exploit but to get the majority of people to comply most people will not fire up another laptop in order to secretly talk to their friends.

Most would just be more careful about talking.

Yea, but still not the same at all. =p

A guy can dream, though.

I'd just use a sandbox to run TS in. Other people would use mumble or another laptop or w/e.

...but thats the point. The people that this method is intended to stop from doing what they're doing now are the ones who are simply going to circumvent the implementation of this system.

So it really is pointless

The entire discussion about how to discourage people from using any voip program is completly insane.

There is no way to fix this nor a way to prevent it.

If you say voip is cheating then you could say that  the entire internet, phones, books or any other communication with other people or gathering information outside Dayz is considered cheating.

Not everyone will circumvent it, in fact most would be too lazy to do anything about it.

Point is to get as many as you can this way.
