I too use it all the time.

Although your example is a prime example of how an external program assisted you and your team far above how the games internal communication system was intended.

The problem with that is my teammates wouldn't have heard me from that distance. I was at the top of the air traffic control tower in a sniping position and they were pretty far. Plus, if I were to talk in game it could give away my position to other hostile players. I've also found teamspeak very useful for meeting up with fellow clan members who were far away, otherwise it would be damn near impossible.

Topic was obviously started by someone who just now found out about dayz. Dayz has some of the most intense squad vs squad combat and in noway is ts cheating as for the meta game telapathy bull crap just think of ts as a squad radio .And go get some friends enough hearing about the lonewolf players whining because they start something with 10 dudes and then get pwned.

I honestly dont understand the problem here and let me explain just a little bit why.

As for the roleplaying part, as a true rpger you would not stop roleplaying if something like meeting an organized group happened, you would include it as a part of your roleplay. Just imagine they are a military squad that was in Cernarus for that time gone rogue. Maybe they havent even gone rogue, they just fell back to basic training when shit came down on all of your heads. So its your choice, try to talk your way out, maybe theyre decent guy, maybe you can join their group, maybe they give you access to their teamspeak. And even that you could roleplay properly, imagine they had radios, and after you proved trustful the gave you one of theirs. NO problem here, honestly spoken.

 

And you have to accept the simple fact that gaming is a matter some people do alone and alot of people do with friends because we like to socialise in  different ways as we all are different.

Hey, people alt tab and use the online maps with loot locations aswel. Should lock their computers on DayZ whilst its open to stop people from doing that.

I think good way to prevent using any 3rd party VoIP would be making ingame VoIP always active. Then whenever you start talking in TS3, Skype, or anything else, your character will start talking ingame, and if anyone is near your location...

You cannot hear someone using TS ingame.

You cannot hear what is said to someone on TS ingame.

There is no range limit on TS compared to the ingame radio coms.

You don't need batteries for TS :P

It goes against everything a lot of players are used to in today's gaming community's, we are so used to using a system to communicate ingame that has no restrictions that we scream blue murder at anyone who would suggest doing it in a more realistic way.

Although quite a few Arma2 and 3 players will be already familiar with ACRE and realise the benefits and downfalls of using a system that is not as omnipresent as TS is.

 

 

Anyway I think the op is correct even tough I myself use TS all the time at the moment I would prefer it if i was restricted in what I could use while ingame.

In the same way that I prefer that I cannot use 3rd in Hardcore servers.

It's not a cheat per se, but it's a crutch. A huge crutch.

 

Just like 3rd person view is a crutch. Just like loot maps are a crutch.

 

The more crutches you use, the easier the game gets.

I should probably clarify my position on this... mostly I play lone wolf, and in such instances, yeah, I'd keep my mic on and I'd talk to people in-game, as I do now. But when I *am* playing with my squad/friends? Communication with them would be a much higher priority than communication with randoms. Come to think of it, the only times I've used the in-game comms at the same time as playing with a group of friends are when I've said "hi" to random other fresh spawns as I run past them on my way to rejoining my pals. Which I guess is pretty friendly, but yeah, I'd give that up for proper squad communication. When I'm grouped up with my friends and we collectively come across other survivors? We don't talk to them. We either stay unseen and let them be on their way, if they don't look threatening, or we try to send them back to the coast. So yeah, unfriendly. Or indifferent at best.

 

My point, however, is that you can't actually force it. TS *will* be used. There is no technology on this planet that can 'solve' the TS 'problem'.

It depends. I'm leader in my SWTOR guild so sometimes I double up on TS and in game Comms, simply because I'll be discussing business with other guild heads. But I'll admit, there have been a few times me and a couple other guildees just didn't bother exiting out of it and ran with TS operational. Been trying to ween ourselves off of it to get a better experience :D

Edit2: Well the only thing i will strongly disagree with is your argument involving the "friends" aspect of the game. I don't really think this game constitutes being a "lone survivor" game when its an MMO with dynamics like it has :P however, you do bring up a good point about the steam friends aspect. That does actually make sense if you're for one and against the other.

All pink and rosy yes, it kills the immersion factor, still there is no way you can stop it, so arguing about it is useless. Only way you can do it is if you have a private server with a private hive (no other way to password a server) with rules and a community that'll stick to those rules and even then it has to be one tight community for someone to not "cheat" their way out.

 

Some people prefer to do things differently just like some people prefer 3PP over 1PP. Get off your high horse already (not to the guy I quoted), you look like you are trying to compensate for something else.
