If your going to KOS....

Recommended Posts

I am serious, I have never crashed on DayZ, never frozen, my internet has gone down though. It's the same wya in any major MMO, only you don't lose your character altogether. I agree it can suck, but NEVER getting to actually kill someone due to combat logging is more annoying to me. I have no problem starting over.

That's my personal opinion.

You must be really slow on the trigger if every person you come across has the ability to combat log before you kill him :P

Have they considered a time duration before logout? Combat logging is a stupid way to go, and I'm frustrated by it when I don't even play!

Come on guys are you serious? DayZ is crashing for me once in a while. Sometimes it throws me back to desktop, so I have to kill it via taskmanager and sometimes the whole system freezes for no reason.

Even though they'll make DayZ stable and stress tested the whole thing with a lot of zeds and players. You'll never know when it'll hit you. Could be corrupt memory, an update gone wrong or whatsoever.

Like I said, I've rather been robbed by a noobish kos, than loosing my stuff to a situation I can't control.

Having a timer for character logout doesn't mean you die if your computer crashes.... If you're running along in the woods and your computer crashes, no worries, you can log back in and all is fine. If you are in combat with a zombie or a person and your computer crashes... whoopsy most likely you lose your shit. If you have issues with the game crashing your computer, troubleshoot the issue and find out why, it has never crashed for myself, as well as a lot of people, so to say DON'T implement a logout time to help ease combat logging because some people have game crashing issues, doesn't make any sense to me at all....

I would rather lose my toon 5 times in a year due to a storm or my ISP fucking off, than 5 times a month due to combat log ghosting, and I'd rather lose it 1000 times to those things than to have a bead on some asshole that failed to kill me firstoff, only to see him disappear to combat logging.

Some people just take the easy shot, and if things get difficuly - they take the easy way out, which right now is combat logging..

Can't wait to see what Rocket and team comes up with to eliminate this.

:beans:

I'm not gonna say i agree with combat logging, but a lot of players come in games with a strictly "play to win" mentality.

If a trick will ensure that they do not lose, they will use it, as many time as necessary.

Sadly, from a purely logical standpoint, they are right.

Well most of the time people tend to get the drop on me and I die :P

But when they don't immediately kill me they tend to just log off...

Lady Kyrah:

Exactly, which is why it's up to the devs, at some point, to implement a way to combat methods that are a direct result of exploiting the game. I don't so much blame players, if it's possible they will do it, and no amount of complaining will get in the way of that.

Well thats the problem here, the "game" is not ment to be played like that. If you want to carry the resposiblity of a rifle and ammo then you better be able to carry it as far as im concerned. And if you start shooting at some dude who wasnt shooting at you then you better be prepared to fight back

I'm sure that when we get more zombies and much dangerous zombies, it will also make KOS people much less.

They can't shoot as much as they like anymore, they need to be beware for the zombies.

Hmm idk, a system to detect gunfire around you may be a little tricky. I mean it's not impossible but that may be more of a hassle than other much simpler solutions xD

This. Given how well the sound engine currently seems to work, I wouldn't put much faith in a 'proximity gunshot detector'. (edit: I don't mean to suggest that such a system would be based on sound, only that it would almost certainly be buggy and unreliable)

Any unsafe logout should cause you to persist in the world for *at least* 5 minutes, to give the people you're engaged with a good chance to cautiously approach your last known position. A safe logout would circumvent that, and require something like a 1 minute setup of a sleeping bag. This is something that should not be possible indoors. Additionally, I'd add that if someone logged out indoors, taking a chance on the 5 minute timer, they should be teleported a half a km or more away upon logging back in. This *should* solve combat logging, ghosting, and do a great deal to help with server hopping, unless I'm missing something.

If you're going to make a topic, you might want to at least spell the topic correctly :) A bit embarrassing for you :)

I heard there will be a slight logout timer soon.

It doesn't even have to be that giant. It has to be significant enough so people don't consider doing it. And I guess 15 - 30 seconds COULD be enough in many cases already. If you are suddenly in combat and are being fired upon in cover or not, you wouldn't press ESC, then click logout and watch some timer go down before it disconnects you from the server itself. While you can't do anything but keep getting shot at.

The chances of survival would be very reduced, so you might as well fight back. 15 to 30 seconds doesn't sound long, but in a sudden fight it can feel quite different.

A "no logging for 2 minutes after you've been shot at" rule would be far too easy for griefers to exploit.  (Idiots deliberately keeping you logged in without killing you, for example.)

A simple 20-second logout timer, combined with a 5-minute no-return-to-the-same-server would suffice.

server hopping timer also required. 15 minutes minimum. I am so sick of reading thread after thread today where community members are recommending new players to server hop.Its ridiculous. The game is about what you would like to do to survive. It is not a quest for the biggest loot. Its ridiculous how some people are carrying round boxes upon boxes full of ammo. The game looses all fun and realism when your disconnecting in and out of multiple games taking everyone else's loot. You guys who are doing it are cowards.

I agree.  Combat loggers and server hoppers are little bitches.  I was browsing the new player discussion earlier to offer assistance where I can, and stumped upon no less than 3 (I was there for less than 5 minutes) posts where people recommended to new players to find a good place to get gear, leave the server, and join a new one.  And that to save their gear they should log out - even if they just get hit by a zombie or something.

Freaking ridiculous.

They cant fix the exploit of deleting game files to see through buildings/get rid of trees so good luck with combat logging.

...Dont combat log like a friggen pansey when I shoot back and hit you.

Ran into some "Bandits" as me and a few firends were taking a little nature walk in the woods. I took a round form a mosin, saw the guy who hit me, then proceeded to take cover and patch myself up. About a minute later I returned fire, hit the sumbitch and he combat logged.

...I will find you guy with red backpack with mosin and crowbar on your back... I will find you and kill you.

Wow yeah you must have that response on copy paste, huh?  You just seem to spread the joy to every thread.

I think a 30 seconds log-out timer is a good start and not too difficult to implement. It was done server-side for the mod on lots of servers and worked like a charm. It wont stop combat logging from occuring completely, since if you're smart you'll be firing from plenty of cover which your opponent cant approach safely within those 30 seconds. If you're hidden, they don't know you're currently logging off and by the time they realize you're not actually going to fire back anymore; you're gone.

Added to this a text message saying: A player in your vicinity is logging out...

I think the community would much rather apprectiate a contributive and insightful comment over your foolish attempt to troll this thread.

I remember one time I was in a group of seven unarmed players and we said hello to a guy with an M4. He sprayed into the crowd until empty and then disconnected when his situation worsened.

What a bitch.

Yeah this is the worst kind of combat logger in my opinion.

I had a similar thing a while back. I saw someone, said "hi" whilst putting my axe away to show I had no hostile intentions. They proceeded to walk up to me and started to beat me with a baseball bat. I casually pulled my axe out and took a swing at them. *Poof* they logged out.
