  1. 1. Would you want to see the Medusa M-47 as an available DayZ weapon?

    • Yes - despite everything the idea of them is great and would have game-play use

    • No - too few of them exist for it to be realistic that they spawn
      7
    • No - Multiple caliber weapons are unfair/unbalanced/unfun/inauthentic/too hard to code

    • No - But add in something similar - Explain in a post

Hey guys,

I wanted to tell you about an oddball gun. The Philips & Rogers Medusa M-47. It is a revolver that was designed to chamber and fire 25+ different caliber pistol rounds out of the same cylinder. No switching cylinders. You can load a 9mm parabellum, then a makarov round, then a 380cap, then a .357 magnum and shoot each in sequence no problem.

This is the wiki page: It only has one in spanish for some reason but you can translate it

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medusa_M47

It can chamber and fire the following calibers:

  • .380 ACP
  • .380 Revolver
  • 9 x 18 Ultra
  • 9 x 18 Makarov
  • Patronen Browning 9 mm (long)
  • 9 mm Glisenti
  • 9 mm Largo
  • 9 mm IMI
  • 9 mm Mauser
  • Parabellum 9 x 19
  • 9 mm Rimmed
  • 9 x 23 Steyr
  • 9 mm Win Mag
  • 9 mm Police
  • 9 x 23 Winchester
  • 9 mm Federal
  • 9 x 22 R Japanese
  • .38 ACP
  • .38 Super
  • .38 Long Colt
  • .38 Short Colt
  • .38 S & W
  • .38 Special
  • TS & W .356
  • .357 Magnum

Notably, several of these calibers are, or will be ingame.

The biggest use for it is to save space. Now, instead of having to have 2 sidearms firing 2 ammo types, you can have 1 that fires both depending on what it available. Realistically speaking it will be able to fire just about ever pistol caliber bullet that could be put ingame except .40SW, .44, .45acp

The downside: In real life it is super rare. The company that made them gave up on it as they just didn't sell and it was super complex to make the cylinder so that it wouldn't explode when using all this different kind of ammo.

They did at one point sell a cylinder conversion kit to allow S&W revolvers to do the same thing, but they were discontinued as well. Maybe an upgrade attachment for the Colt Python that is ingame?

Anyway, Let me know your thoughts.

As for why it makes sense to put it into DayZ, I figured that literally speaks for itself as it is the ultimate survivalist pistol. Super rare, of course, but I can't image any pistol being more treasured in the future game that Rocket envisions.

Beans this so Rocket will see. I'm sure that as soon as he reads it he will agree.

I actually like this idea regardless of whether you could find it in Chenarus or not.

There has got to be a downside to using this weapon, maybe gets worn faster?  Breaks easily but common?

Super rare?
I think it would be the "can opener of guns" in DayZ.

Rare but the best.

To be fair all thous rounds are roughly the same diameter, just different lengths.  I still want a Taurus Judge/S&W Governor in game, .45acp .45LC .410 bore, .454 casul.  I plan to get one eventually in real life.

@BigMike - Sure, but theres a gameplay difference between 357magnum and 9mm makarov even if they have similar diameters.

Also, I prefer the Taurus Circuit Judge over the pisol variants, makes more sense and the longer barrel improves accuracy.

I know that, I'm just saying that overall it's not that impressive that a gun can chamber different types of 9mm rounds (It's still pretty cool and not trying to knock the gun).  Now if the same gun could say chamber .22 .357 .45 .50AE without changing out barrels or cylinders that'd be impressive.

Awsome idea, but like you said, they're extremely rare.

My guess is all were exportd to the Americas and Spain if the article was in spanish.

such magical things exist. Check out the Baikal combination guns (5.56 over 12ga; 308 over 20ga.; etc etc etc) http://eaacorp.com/portfolio-item/mp94-series-combo-shotgunrifle/

Thats not getting into german drillings and vrielings
