Syphax4Ever 15 Posted January 26, 2014 I love the fact that weapons suffer degradation over time and you need to take good care of them if you want to help prevent this with a maintenance kit, etc. Most weapons you find however already are in a less than pristine condition. Again, I like this feature since you're just a survivor and should be glad with what you found (as opposed to being dead). So here's a thought I was playing with. Introduce replacement parts for weapons, which when applied 'upgrade' the condition of that weapon to the condition of the spare parts. (I.e. these are NOT attachments but the interal mechanics of the gun in question). For example, say you found an M4 and its condition is badly damaged. Then you find spare parts for the M4 and "its" (their is plural but its just one item) condition is worn. If you then apply those spare parts to your M4, it is upgraded from badly damaged to worn. This will give players a new spectrum of oppurtunities to repair an otherwise faulty or less than pristine gun to a better functioning one. M4 Spare PartsWorn Replacement parts for an M4. Applying these to an M4 gives it the same condition as these parts. Something like that in-game. Sorry if this has been suggested already or if you guys are way ahead of me.

Syphax4Ever 15 Posted January 26, 2014 I like it. Fits in with the whole concept of crafting objects. Beans to you sir! That's what I was thinking and wondered it would be nice to be able to fix firearms this way but not in such a way that you'd need just one generic kit to upgrade your stuff. Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted January 27, 2014 I'd like to hear from some of the local DayZ gun-nuts about how something like this could be implemented.
Syphax4Ever 15 Posted January 27, 2014 I'd like to hear from some of the local DayZ gun-nuts about how something like this could be implemented. I've been a member of a gun club for 5 years myself and I know replacement parts are a commodity, however it is often cheaper/simpler to buy a new gun in most cases if its so damaged that it requires extensive replacement parts. This is generally speaking and not from a "but I happen to know a place/guy who can provide" since thats not going to happen in the post-apocalypse But yes, guns like the Mosin and the M4 have inter-exchangable parts since they're mass-produced. TomJeff 12 Posted January 27, 2014 Maybe you could combine 2 guns into one pristine one?
