DayZ in general, bandits and nighttime

First off, I want to say I'm a big fan of the game. I used to love playing the mod and just recently picked up the standalone.

 

So far it's been real easy.

Im playing on hardcore sever with 20-40 players online at all times and I don't server hop for loot

 

Zombies are practically non existant and nothing to worry about and gearing up isn't hard at all.

There are water pumps all over the place so soda cans/cantines/water bottles/purification tables aren't necesary. Food can be a bit tricky as a fresh spawn but once you get started that is no longer an issue aswell.

 

That left me with nighttime, for a coupple of days I had alot of fun, not being able to see anything without using a flashlight. constantly toggling it on and off to check where the road was heading while being super paranoid someone might see my light and start stalking me. Putting on my headtorch and equipping my fireaxe to quickliy kill a zombie in my way.

 

Put then I started thinking why....

Why do I never see the flashlight of another player, how can they move around so easily?

I started fiddling around with the gfx settings, this is probably common knowledge for most players but I see alot of people complaining about nighttime so here is the fix for you:

 

1. Turn gamma to max

2. Turn Brightness to max

3. Set Cloud quality to very high

 

Now you will see everything.... Flashlight are utterly useless with this setting.

 

So now that I know this I just cannot go back to playing in utter darkness knowing that players can see me perfectly fine and shoot me down from a great distance.

 

With the challenge of nighttime gone there is really just 1 thing you can do in this game that gives you challenge, and that is go hunting other players.

 

So to those who complain about too many bandits, what do you expect when there is nothing else to do?

 

I know the game will get alot harder and i really hope nighttime will be restored to how its supposed to be (Intense)

 

The only way I can see myself playing this game as it is right now, is to go pvp.

What I've heard/read of things suggests zombie AI will come in late in the game's pre-release development - I'm guessing it's one of the more complicated issues to tackle, and they want everything else stable and secure before they start building on it. I may be going out on a limb, but I expect that loot and water outlets will get a hell of a lot rarer in the late alpha/early beta, to make it a more realistic experience. Loot table variety will be greatly enhanced, though likely more heavily in beta than in alpha. And I know Rocket mentioned sometime before the Alpha release that the team intends to work something out that cancels the advantage provided by gamma adjustment at night. We just have to wait and see what comes through as a solution.

I have no doubt that most of the issues will improve, I have faith in Rocket, I just wish he start showing his sadistic side soon :)

 

Removing most of the water pumps would be a great feature.
