So does this game run smooth yet?

Recommended Posts

doesnt matter the age of your rig...its the HP that matters

not sure how old an i7 930 with gtx 570 is, but it rips SA apart @ 4.25-4.5 ghz

I constantly see people asking why their brand new i7 with 3.6 ghz is only getting xxx fps...its stupidly obvious by now that you need over 4ghz to get the game "maxed" in its current stage

so if you have over 4ghz and at least a gtx 570, yo0u will be fine. If you consider 40-60 fps good...haha

Most of the map runs pretty smooth.. The new town up north that me and some of my buddies call the New Berenzino, that town runs really bad. Worse than Elektro on the mod

Can confirm that.

fps is halved in all towns this is what needs working on maybe with multicore work it would be alot better.

my avg fps is about 60 on max but hit a town and we down to 30 fps.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying games that actually take advantage of my gpu

I don't mean perfectly smooth since its an alpha, but any better? (NOTE: My definition of smooth is 60fps, just because you don't mind running 20-30 doesn't mean the game is performing well)

Client side and performance optimization is usually done late in development. Optimizing the final product, not the mess of changing features and constant additions that the alpha and beta will be.

Performance has improved very slightly for me. I'm able to play with ambient occlusion with the same performance that I had before, so that's a 10-15 FPS gain for me.

No miracles as of yet though. I wouldn't expect any huge FPS gains until at least beta.

i7 920 @ 4.1GHZ, med settings, 60 fps with no serious dips.

Hi.

My performance in SA is much lower than it was in the mod. Not because of the new eyecandy, but because the mod forced a shorter viewdistance.

That said it runs butter smooth, not sure why people complain so much lol. I have fairly dated equipment, i5 3570k, GTX560Ti 2GB, 16GB ram, OS and game on SSD drive, and I haven't had any stuttering. Regardless of our personal opinions on what good graphics are and the engine, the truth of the matter is this engine requires your cpu to be over 4 GHZ to shine. Like it or lump it.

PS - good graphics is very subjective. A lot of games that people say have amazing graphics, look very cartoony to me, shinier doesn't always mean better.

Regards.

What frames do you get though?

I'm running a three year old rig.

i7-2600K @ 4.6GHz

8GB 2133MHz

GTX 580 SLI

Vertex 3 (x2) RAID0

Unfortunately I can only run one video card as there aren't any properly optimized drivers for SLI out yet, but if I put everything on High, it runs pretty well. I get 40 minimum frames per second.

I like to turn my settings down a bit to make other players more visible, though. When I do that I am sitting on a consistent 60+.

On top of my earlier post, unparking my processor's cores gave me a slight FPS increase.

Hi.

I just went in for a quick test. Unfortunately I'm a good 15-20 minute run from any citys, and that would be if I just ran straight there disregarding my characters safety lol.

Moving around through forest, field and a small town it's varying between 39-79, and going up to mid-80's inside structures. That said, it was still perfectly smooth when I have visited citys. I know in most game engines you tend to need 60 or sometimes even 100+ fps to have smooth gameplay, but in my personal experience with the RV engine(since 2001) it just isn't the case.

I haven't tweaked the ini. The in-game settings are mostly default, except sun occlusion off, atoc on trees and grass, shadows high(because it works better than lower settings), objects high(because I like it that way). I could easily tweak for more fps but I like the way it looks, it runs very smooth, and I don't suffer from the dreaded RV engine LOD pop-ups(though that may be cause I have the game installed on SSD).

Regards.

For anyone who still has frame problems:

Everything else very low or disabled

Set video Memory to max.

$$$$

Doesn't work for most people

The Arma engine is known for being full potato and running decently on some cards and terribly on many others
