Hidden - Nuke Silo w/ live missile..

Imagine it is 2016 and DayZ is out of beta.

 

What if one of the endgame scenarios was the ability to find a cold war era launch silo with a live nuke and then to be able to detonate it? Somewhere out in the middle of nowhere spawned in one of say 10000 random locations.

 

Perhaps at great personal peril - a survivor might be able to remove the war head and scurry it about the countryside in a backpack. All the while slowly dying of radiation sickness but ultimately able to detonate it somewhere. 

 

Or perhaps it is too large and bulky to be portable and the only option is to launch and maybe launch codes could  be found. Coordinates could be entered and with the push of a button - bye bye NWAF, or Skalisty Island. 

 

The only way I could see this working is if the nuke was locked to the server. And if the Nuke was possessable, logging out while possessing causes detonation and death of possessor.

 

The remaining survivors on the map would then have to deal with the radioactive aftermath of whatever place went boom - at least until server reset and it might give us new items like lead blankets, HAZMAT suits, Geiger counters etc.

 

Who hates this idea and why?

I don't so much as hate it, as I am cautious of it. I think it should not be detonated directly on the landmass, as this would just completely interfere with players, and it would kill too many, I think. I think it should be detonated on one fo the four sides of the map - way off in the north, way off to the west, east, south etc. I could see this becoming a very challenging endgame. If it was detonated on the coast, it would force everyone to move inwards. That kind of mass migration would be badass.

 

If it was detonated on the north or west, it would force everyone to the coast, which would be less awesome, but would create some pretty cool gunfights.

 

Seeing the explosion, or seeing the sky go red, would make it even better.

 

If they develop the outer portions of the map further, and maybe even the 'outside' areas, this would become a lot better.

 I get your point but I would hope by that time the Play button on the main menu would auto-connect to a server best suited for for your skill level/hours played etc.

this is, IMO, the worst idea I have seen yet.

Just my opinion. But that's what I think.

FIRST, you would NEVER be able to physically carry the warhead taken off a ICBM. Its too big. Second, detonation of that war head is not a simple as putting in a code. It has to drop from the atmosphere, and detonate at a predetermined altitude.

THIRD, I highly doubt anyone would have the know how be able to reprogram the warhead to change its target from, oh, say New York City (or wherever a soviet missile would have been targeted too), to NWAF or Skalisty island.

FOURTH, any attempt to tamper with a nuclear warhead by any person who doesn't know EXACTLY what they were doing, and knew all the codes and procedures, would permenately DISARM the device the moment they did anything to it.

And lastly, its just a terrible idea all around. WORSE than the idea to add the Tac Nuke to CODMW2 multiplayer. It would effectively....just no. No. NO.

The only realistic part of this idea is being near the exposed warhead would irradiate you.

I don't understand why anyone would even consider this...how would you carry a ballistic missile on your back? And how would the average Joe know how to launch said ICBM? Even if someone had the launch codes there's a ridiculous amount of procedures that would have to be performed in order to even get to the countdown. As for if someone were to launch it, a nuclear weapon detonated anywhere in Chernarus would destroy the entire country, or irradiate it beyond survivable limits, not just one airport or one island. The entire map would be destroyed with half of it becoming a crater.

 

Not worth rocket's time or effort for a pointless "endgame"

So just because 1 out of 40 players (considering the server is full) feels like being a dick, everyone else on the server has to suffer? I don't even know why I am trying to reason with this incredibly stupid idea.

The "Play" button goes to whatever server you were on last, not to a random server.

 

And matching you to "Skill level" is total bullshit and doesn't belong in DayZ. If you aren't good, you better get good.

I don't know. I saw a post saying that server hopping is a legitimate tactic and there should be a denotation in the server browser saying if the server has a lot of loot left or not.

This thread is now the place to post your BEST worst idea you can come up with! Since OP already posted his, Ill go next:

COWS!

This game needs to implement COWS. They can be tamed, and ridden. It should of course also be possible to get milk from them, which can be collected in a cooking pot, then combined with cereal.

But the best part? with a hacksaw, rope, duct tape, and fire axe, it should also be possible to harvest wood and build a catapult, which can be used to launch the cow. IE, a COWtapult. The COWtapult could be used as a sort of improvised indirect fire weapon (like a mortar or other artillery). To use it accurately, you would need a compass, map, and exact coordinates as well as the ability to calculate trajectories and wind compensation (perhaps an ingame calculator, which would require a battery at night, but during the day would have that little solar panel so yeah). If however a player was able to successfully launch a cow from the COWtapult AND hit another player, then simultaneously EVERY player in the server would be launched into the air like the giants do in skyrim.

That in itself isn't all that bad of a suggestion...

 

...anyway:

 

More realistic weapon attachments (lik cod) u get target find3r where u no find nubs cus it find nubs 4 u n then it shoot 4 u headshot nub lol

The idea of finding a bunker somewhere (Similar to the underground bunker in Namalsk) would be fun, but the ICBM idea is definitely a no no!
