StayAlive (DayZ) 169 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Well, yesterday i found three bandits roaming around in an open field and i thought I’d have myself a little slaughter. Stood in an elevated position and when they all stood still for a moment, i started to shoot them from about 100-150 metres range with my Mosin. Killed one who spotted me at the same time i fired and another guy who died from a second bullet after i had to reload. Then i got killed from the third guy who was hiding behind some bushes. What went good/bad and how i and maybe even you can learn from this the next time: 1. Waiting for them to slow down was a wise choice, as i would have had much harder time killing them at different ranges/speed. My aiming is not yet perfected either, so being in an elevated position and trying to surprise them was good thinking. 2. I had my revolver aimed at them, but i thought that the range was to long for my aiming. This was my first mistake as i see it. With my revolver i should have been able to kill them with six shots and it would also been easier to follow them through the iron sight/shoot, then from the Mosin at that range and angle.3. Switching to the Mosin before combat and forgetting how many shoots have been fired before was my second mistake. If I’ve had five shots, instead of two, i would have been able to kill them.4. Third mistake was that i did not go for the third guy after reloading, but shot at the second one because he was hiding behind a dead body and i had a straight shot. This was pure adrenaline talking and i knew just as i pulled the trigger what mistake i had done. I should have gone for the third guy, because there was a BIG change that the second guy was wounded and not been able to get a shot off.5. Fourth and last mistake was that i should have gone prone [My elevated position made it impossible to shoot them from a proned position] when i killed the second guy, instead of looking for third guy. This would have made me spot him easier and miminiming the chance of him killing me. So, there you are community. A day in the field for me. I died, but it was one hell of a rush! :) Edited January 24, 2014 by StayAlive
zhrike 264 Posted January 24, 2014 Well, yesterday i found three bandits <snip> How do you know they were bandits? "They look like one!" "Well, we did do the hat ... and the nose - but they were bandits!" Three guys running in a field, looking all bandity. They wanted it. They were asking for it. Greaves 131 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Going prone with the Mosin often makes me hit the ground in front of me. So i usually stay crouched. I agree with the adrenaline thing though, if i get in a firefight, i do things on impulse, and sometimes i'm not thinking straight. How did you know they were bandits, though? I prefer practicing my shooting on zombies. Don't want to shoot friendlies. (Zhrike you ninja you) Edited January 24, 2014 by Greaves
StayAlive (DayZ) 169 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) @Zhrike Fully geared guys with M4A1 running near a costal town= Bandits. If not, they were still to close to myposition which i use for taking out bandits:) @Greaves At short to medium long ranges i can use the Mosin in a croched position, but right now aiming at very long distances is hard without beingin a proned position and using the bipod. blowmyhorn 20 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Who cares which party were the Bandits. It is part of the game and not the point of the post, you people are arguing over semantics, how tiring. Edited January 24, 2014 by ShootingPains

Are you by chance shooting in 3PP, using the silly arcade aiming dot? If you aim down the scope like you would a real gun you should hit your target. Well, unless your aiming at the ground  Maybe there's some bug with the mosin I don't know of, but I've never experienced this in any RV engine game while aiming properly, though it's a well known issue for people who shoot in 3PP. Regards.

Timecharge 28 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) I agree with the adrenaline thing though, if i get in a firefight, i do things on impulse, and sometimes i'm not thinking straight. Yeah yesterday I was coming out of a building in Vybor when someone else opened the door from the inside and they didn't see me (they had an m4) and instead of running away with my Mosin and long range scope I chased after him, I went around a corner and ate 30-60 bullets from his M4. 1. Don't chase someone at close range with a Mosin when they have an M4 (lol) edit: This isn't the first time it has happened either.. The second time I have lost a fully geared character due to choosing the WRONG choice when I am given the option Fight or Flight, I should really choose Flight more often.. Jack Dant 158 Posted January 24, 2014 Assuming you had a escape route, you should have used it when you ran out of bullets. The surprise element is gone by then, and you are not going to win a straight firefight with an M4 with a Mosin. Retreat, relocate, maybe come back from a different direction.
