noto 6 Posted January 24, 2014 Hey Guys, I've been trying to get my Xbox controller to work with the game for quite a while. Currently, it's only working for running and navigating and even then, I still can't seem to configure it properly to easily take out an item or to aim my weapon. Are there any players able to play DayZ solely on an Xbox controller? And if so, what are your key mappings? It'd be nice to lounge and play this game on a controller, and the game appears to already have support for it. Obviously this isn't a priority, but for entertainment purposes is anybody aware of any patches that may reflect better useability for an Xbox controller? soulfirez 901 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) I doubt they will add any further or very little xbox controller support what is in the game already is merely left over support from arma 2. On saying that i play using my 65 inch 3d tv as my screen and as such sit back in my lounge to play and well i use a xbox controller lol i find it quite good just get xpadder use the default xbox support for the controller as it really is the best for movement etc then use xpadder to add functions to the controller ( remember the d pad can be made into a 8 way split so 8 functions put on it plus the unused buttons of the controller. Play with it find a way you like but you can almost ALMOST remove the need for key board if you take your time and think of what functions you need and use frequently ( i only use my key board for the hello finger sitting surender animations as i do not use them alot for general play other than that everything is pretty much on the controller lol EDIT also remember you can add key board functions to a tap or hold of a button or combinations of buttons so it really is a time effort on your own part to do it yourself so you know what does what on your controller. soulfirez 901 Posted January 24, 2014 you have pc why ruin amazing controls with dumb xbox controller. mouse and keyboard is kingIf we were talking a twitch shooter id agree whole heartidly but as it is usually ( apart from some random crazed cqb play ) its not the fastest person who wins its the smarter more patient or person who moves to the best vantage point who wins. With controller no need to to use shift etc for varying movement speed etc as it becomes how far forward you push on the stick it makes flying driving vehicles far better and for some games i wouldnt go as far as saying its better than key board and mouse it certainly matches it though ( i class dayz as one of those just my opinion . Dont believe me i am happy to tell you the hardcore server i play on and you can come find out if your keyboard and mouse give you a big enough advantage over me to beat me. If i lose i wont be blaming my choice of controll method now if i was to play counter strike COD id go straight out key board and mouse cause there it certainly is KING... Irenicus (DayZ) 289 Posted January 24, 2014 Are you kidding? Good luck trying to play a game with over 50 essential controls, on a controller with fewer than 20 buttons.
Zeromi 4 Posted April 4, 2014 anyway, back on topic. I can help you with using the triggers to aim and fire your weapon. message me if you still need help. I am in the process of setting up my controller as I've mostly been a console gamer and some habits are just too difficult to break. besides, I enjoy playing on my 50' tv from my sofa. I've got the basics mapped so far and I'm starting to test out reserving a button to switch between sets of layouts. so for example, if you hold the B button, it activates a new set of controls to use the hot bar or menus. release to deactivate. If you just press the B button it could toggle a third set of controls for flying, driving or sniping. I've also considered getting a USB pedal controller to use in conjunction with the pad but i need to test out my above B button idea first to see how well that works. A left/right pedal would work well with leaning (which i currently have mapped to LB & RB but it would be good to free them up for other actions) I'm not sure how useful leaning actually is in the game? any comments on that welcome
Zeromi 4 Posted April 6, 2014 okay - to save anyone new to dayz and xpadder some of the stress i went through, please read the following short guide on xpadder and some suggested dayz control setup. I used my xbox 360 controller but this can obviously be easily adapted for PS3 or other pads. using the toggle and "hold zone" functions I've managed to get a pretty smooth control setup. Using one button for two or three functions has freed up many of my buttons and I'm playing the game without the need for different "sets" of buttons (so far but i think that may change when i get to vehicles. Luckily, with the setup I have now i actually have 3 buttons left unused which could later be used as set selectors) ignoring the movement of the sticks (as if you can't figure that out then give up now), here's my layout:(I'll explain how to setup button holds and toggles below) X - Tap to jump/vault (Hold to reload)Y - (so far unassigned)A - open doors/pick up itemsB - Tap to go prone - (Hold for half a second to crouch) - (Hold for one second to stand)Start - raise weaponBack - inventory (Hold for map)D-pad up - hands up (friendly signal) - (hold to kneel)D-pad left - hot bar leftD-pad right - hot bar rightD-pad down (so far unassigned)LB - toggle lean leftRB - toggle lean rightLeft thumb stick click - free lookRight thumb stick click - (so far unassigned)Left trigger - aimright trigger - shoot to enable the "hold" and "toggle" function - left click the button you want to add multiple functions to - go to advanced (bottom left) there are tabs for toggle/set selector/assignments etc, assignments is to assign button holds. press the first key (EG Z for prone) then click add hold zonepress the next key you want to add to the same button (eg X for crouch" then add hold zone againpress the final key (eg C to stand) I added 50ms to each hold function but that's personal preference (it should show as 0.50s) I'm trying to learn how to add 'double tap' to a botton so i can add further functionality to one button but i' having too much fun exploring just now I'm also looking into adding multiple button presses to one key. (so holding left trigger to aim would change the up and down D pad to zeroing while aiming) Make sure you go into the devices and deactivate the control pad in the in-game menu. highlight the pad then click disable. As xpadder will be handling the instructions, the in game emulation would conflict and you'll end up with all kinds of weird things happening I hope this is of some help to some of you please no "you're wasting your time, M&KB are superior". save itI'll remind you of rule three of the forum which i'm sure you're familiar with (pfff) Mods, if this is too long, let me know and I'll add spoiler tabs.
