bdm634 7 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) I think it would be cool to explore a cave inhabited by maybe a bear or wolf family with maybe some crazy loot from a group of NPC survivors that couldn't survive the bears n wolfs.Or a system of sewers that are over run by zombies that hold some crazy loot from a group of dead NPC'S.Both of which are extremely dark and very hard to survive even with a friend. Zarniwoop 1193 Posted January 24, 2014 I'd like to see tunnels and caves too. Eneterable sewers would be a stretch. My city of 400k does not have a sewer system that is enterable, appart from the odd manhole and tiny maintenance tunnel. So it'd be a stretch to see tunnels under say Chernogorsk that has barely that amount of people.
merlointhesky 20 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) I agree, would be interesting to have "undergrounds" to explore as well, like cellars (with food?), prisons, storage rooms, maybe even labs where zombies came from?? (if this was created in a lab ofc!) It would also add to the fact of feeling "trapped" if someone is heard coming in from the only exit :p Edited January 24, 2014 by merlointhesky
AP_Norris 1018 Posted January 24, 2014 Sewers have been discussed heaps and unless we see a city with residence for a good 1,000,000 people or so, it wouldn't be realistic having one big enough to enter.Caves and even gold/ coal mining tunnels or something would be awesome and completely fit the scene. Some could be deep, dark and twisted.Others could be more of a hole in the side of a rock/ a cart track into a hill.Small things a plenty all around is what keeps the map interesting and fun to explore for longer.Survival gear should be prevalent in natural caves to show that people came to seek refuge there from the towns.Old mining equipment should spawn in mines, maybe even... Mining grade explosives? Powerful drills, hardhats with lamps.
merlointhesky 20 Posted January 24, 2014 Survival gear should be prevalent in natural caves to show that people came to seek refuge there from the towns. It all depends how long it has been from the zombie outbreak, my personal perception so far is that when you "spawn", things happened relatively recently and the survivors have to start a new type of life, hence being not prepared for what's happening around you. Otherwise we would all start in a bunker, similarly to fallout, imho :)
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) As for time: Hard to tell exactly when it happened. I never saw an offical set point. All I hear is: DayZ - It's your story (and that's good, I guess) Some say it's been years since "Day Z", some say it's more recent. At least regarding Chernarus. Other areas could be safe or hit later on, just as Chernarus. If you look at the game, there's things speaking in favor of both. It can't be that recent: All towns are overrun / lost / abandoned by default. Cars seem broken in a way that suggests time passed, could just be a placeholder though? It can't be years or much more: You find loot in many places. Even fresh fruit. People still appear. Zombies would probably be gone after years, starved to death or whatever. It's a semi-realistic scenario after all, they're not actual zombies but infected people on rabies or whatever. To any of these: Could be for gameplay reasons. I personally like to say some time passed, but not too much. Keeps things happening in the game "fresh", if you get what I'm saying. It's your story, after all. As for underground areas, caves, etc: Totally in favor. Edited January 24, 2014 by Combine
Otis.Driftwood 204 Posted January 24, 2014 I'm up for tunnels. Creepy atmosphere.
commanderbash 102 Posted January 24, 2014 I think they'd make the best kind of spots to hide your loot and setup traps once persistence is added for item storage, but yes, caves and sewers ftw, you have my beans
