Will a 1440p Monitor kill Performance?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, im going to buy a 2560x1440p Monitor soon, im planning to play in High settings without HDR / ATOC / ANTIALIASING and AO.

Can somone tell me if it looks much better then in 1080p, and if it will kill my performance to under 40 FPS ? Im going to power this with a Titan and a i7 2700k.

Have you bothered to check some benchmarks?

Pretty sure there are some on Toms Hardware with that setup.

As a bit of a sidenote, what size are you considering for that kind of monitor? Having seen a lot of different specs out there, including 4K, my personal take is that there's a serious point of diminishing returns at anything under a 32"... Any less than that, the extra money you're throwing down on an HD+ display can often be better spent on beefing up some other component in the system. Just some unrequested words of wisdom. ;)

Of course it will kill performance but you have a titan so go for it.

titan has a ton of vram and power so 1440p will not be a problem for it.

BTW why would you buy a titan anyway but keep a old CPU?

Instead of buying a HD+ monitor which looks similar to HD, you should buy a new mother board and CPU, like the i5 4570k and z87 chipset.

My 2 cents.

To have 2 fps more?

Sandy Bridges are still Top Notch and OC better then some new models. I have a EVGA Z68 FTW which is a lot better then the new bugged boards intel released, and costs more then some of the new boards.

Thats 400€ more for 5% more performance.

^ This.

Unless you're running 4 GPUs in Crossfire/SLI or doing something that actually uses HyperThreading, those i5s can't be beaten for gaming when overclocked.

I don't see anything on the CPU horizon that's going to make my 2500K (4.3GHz under H60) obsolete..

Noooo don't get the Titan!!! This is a pretty old thread but the 780 ti was out during these posts and it completely blows the Titan out of the water on 1440p resolution here are some benchmarks! Hell put a few more bucks in than you would have with buying a Titan and get 2 780 ti in SLI which is what I have ;)

Holy necro thread batman.

Hellstalker - the game doesn't even know how to use two video cards. SLI is pointless and you get better FPS with one card (unless that changed.)

To the OP - I run 2560x1440 (100% scaling) with normal settings. No issues here with GTX 680, you're going to be just fine. Although I dip in 30 FPS when going through Svetlojarsk but still playable. In fact I encourage you to get 1440p.

The game can only use up to 2 GBs of VRAM and that's WITH a parameter change. He will take a hit at 1440P.
