Chanced 0 Posted January 23, 2014 I am sure it has been said before but.. I have been playing games for many many years. I do not consider myself a hardcore gamer though. I bought the game because I like the idea and wanted to help support the people making it. That being said, I have some griefs right off the bat. I do like the hyper realism to a certain extent. But there is nothing at all in any way shape of form that I found for new players to learn the game. Perhaps this is because it is only in alpha stages and most people playing would be more or less hardcore gamers. There needs to be a way to learn the game. This is a business after all, and the only way to keep any game going is buy building a customer base. I would never recommend this game to a single friend because it is too frustrating to play without any previous knowledge of the game. The very first time I started, it was night and I had no idea of how to do anything. Who wants to play like that? It is not fun. I couldn't see or do anything and I was killed 5 minutes in. By what? I still have no idea, a zombie or another player, who knows. I would love to see this game grow and become a massive hit. But as an investor, I wouldn't put a dime into it just yet. They need to try and grab new people, but the game is clearly not meant for new people, not yet at least. I really hope future updates take brand new players into account. Rant over. libertine 351 Posted January 23, 2014 The night time start is a tough one i agree i don't even play at night actually because its ridiculous unfortunately to turn your flashlight on. But not knowing what is going on about anything, during the daytime, makes for an incredible rewarding, immersive gaming experience. Put yourself there and care about your life as if it were your own.
Chanced 0 Posted January 23, 2014 Yeah, it was great, till I walked into a random building and some dude laying on the floor kills me in one shot. The idea of trying to learn a game while playing with people who know the game in and out, is a terrible idea for a pvp game.
TYS 25 Posted January 23, 2014 If you are suggesting any sort of in-game tutorial. No. I am sure it has been said before but.. There needs to be a way to learn the game. This is a business after all, and the only way to keep any game going is buy building a customer base. I would never recommend this game to a single friend because it is too frustrating to play without any previous knowledge of the game. The very first time I started, it was night and I had no idea of how to do anything. I would love to see this game grow and become a massive hit. There are many youtube videos and guides out there to help. Other than that it is trial and error. -Yes it has been said before.-The reason this game appeals to people and is doing business is because of the difficulty, the perma-death and the adrenaline rush that comes with a risky situation.-Over a million copies sold in Alpha.-Oh it was nighttime when you started.. Welcome to DayZ!-Lastly this game will grow and become a massive hit. End rant. My two cents.. SobakaTYS
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 23, 2014 The idea of trying to learn a game while playing with people who know the game in and out, is a terrible idea for a pvp game. Try Quake then DayZ won't seem so bad... You learn by making mistakes, such is life.
Chanced 0 Posted January 23, 2014 Unfortunately, the game will not grow to become a massive hit outside of alpha if it does not appeal to casual gamers. Sorry, such is life. People will not buy a game that is basically one giant grief. There are a lot of hardcore gamers who will continue to buy this game, but it will be bought by them while in alpha/beta, and noone else when it is released if there is nothing for new gamers. I am learning, yes, but as I said, I would never recommend this game to anyone. And as they say, a happy costumer tells 2 people an unhappy customer tells 10. If they want to only make this game for a very small group of people, so be it. That does not make the game a success. It would be wise to play to both crowds, hardcore and casual. Sorry if it makes you butthurt to think casual gamers would want to enjoy a game that you play. Saying no to any type of tutorial is just a stupid business decision, and I am sure it will be included in later additions prior to a full release.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) DayZ isn't designed for the masses, it's supposed to be a gritty survival simulator or anti-game. Rocket has said in the past that he does not like the idea of and will not include a tutorial. Maybe some kind of helper pop-up system the first time you run the game e.g. "drag your battery onto your torch to insert it" the first time you open your inventory or something, to help new players understand how to perform basic actions that would just be common sense in real life, but I certainly don't think we'll see a traditional tutorial.
