Verex11 95 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) "Fixes and additions are of course welcome, but DayZ is at its best when everyone playing it has bought into the survivalist fantasy. Right now the game needs re-balancing in ways that enforce that kind of behaviour. Too often I'll be slowly exploring a town only to see another new survivor sprinting bow-legged towards me without a care in the world, because that survivor doesn't yet have anything of value to protect, knows they can outrun any zombie they aggro, and can more quickly search houses that way. It's also common to have new survivors come up to you and beg you to kill them, if there aren't any tall buildings around that allow them to do it themselves, so they can respawn at a hopefully better location. All of this undercuts the central conceit that you're vulnerable and your life is valuable." PhillyT 554 Posted January 22, 2014 The only thing I can think of is forcing a respawn delay. Because really, nothing makes a COD player mad like a delay in respawn.
-MadTommy 367 Posted January 22, 2014 Wise words are ones that point out obvious problems with an alpha game? More like a Captain Obvious words to me. I'm sure most of us could point out 20 things that need doing / addressing / fixing.

PhillyT 554 Posted January 22, 2014 I have played a few hundred hours of COD in my day. Great game for what it is, but you really don't care about any given life outside of maintaining your KD. Patience is minimal, and the need to get into the action fast to score those points is the mandate. I think a lot of these guys approach the game with that maddened assault mentality for a few reasons, none of which will be a surprise, as MadTommy pointed out: 1. No real threat from zombies - too slow, too few, too easy to kill or avoid.2. Greatly overpowered punching mechanic - really a terrible design choice, but one that will never survive testing for long.3. No need to worry about dying again as a new spawn since you have nothing and will respawn at another nearby area immediately after death. Easy fix for this is to increase spawn locations and maybe force a couple of minute wait for respawn. I personally hate the respawn delay option. There were many reasons CTF and the other COD modes were less popular. EVen a 5 second delay can be torture!

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) The part about being able to outrun zombies is quite true. The zombies in DayZ Mod may have been broken as hell but they were a pain, a pain that I often found myself crawling around rather than running from so that I didn't draw attention to myself. Or maybe players are too fast. Unlimited sprint is a powerfull ability. I concur with this and I don't think unlimited sprint is intended. After checking out the science(!) that guy did on energy and water consumption it seems to make no difference whether you walk, jog, run, or sprint and this can't be intended. Zeshio (DayZ) 5 Posted January 22, 2014 Most issues will be worked out as the game moves along, as PhillyT noted. Once zombies litter the streets again it will be a lot harder for players to rush. There seems to be a mix of zombie speeds now, I think the issue is just in numbers. They do mob up as soon as you've been spotted, so imagine a whole town after one dude makes noise! I agree, but can you imagine the rivers of tears if they implemented a stamina system... atmaca (DayZ) 48 Posted January 22, 2014 The only thing I can think of is forcing a respawn delay. Because really, nothing makes a COD player mad like a delay in respawn. Terrible terrible design choice. Instead; - Add an option to spawn in the same random town with your friend.- Distribute the good loot all around the map randomly.- Make zombies faster than player, not by increasing their speed, but by slowing down player when tired.- Zombies don't hit with their hands, they tackle down and bite humans to infect more. That should be the way to go for dayz zombies. (never gonna happen since dayz is not a zombie game, srsly)
