CaptainRorschach 0 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Hi. I've had this problem for a while now, and was wondering if anyone can help. I've submitted a ticket to steam (no response), and I thought I'd turn to you guys instead. I got a new PC, with the same (perfectly fine) internet as before. Downloaded steam, logged in, all my games were there, uninstalled. So far, so good. Time to download my favourite game, DayZ! Click 'install', C: Drive, normal place. Download starts, and a tiny, single bar of activity (worth about 50KB), slides across my screen. Then nothing happens. The game is still 'downloading', but no activity is actually happening. It will have a 4 minute gap of nothing, then it will download 50KB or so in a tiny burst. Sometimes it's so rare to get activity that the game automatically stops downloading, and tells me there's an 'update required'. Left the game downloading for 10 hours, only 100MB gets through. Huh. Google it. Reddit it. Steam Support it. I end up reinstalling Steam, renaming the Client.blob, moving my server location, limiting my download speed, forwarding every port Steam told me to, and even temporarily disabling my firewall. None of the above worked at all. So now it's been 5 days, only 250MB has downloaded in total. At this rate it will be weeks before the game downloads (Im beginning to dread the idea of constant updates). So, guys, any ideas? Enclosed is a screenshot of the download page doing its normal thing. Thanks. P.S: Yes, this problem appears on all my steam games, but it seems worst on DayZ, and I thought someone here might have an idea anyway. Crit 46 Posted January 22, 2014 have you done a www.speedtest.net just to check how your interent is performing at the moment. See what you get on there compared to steam. May show a problem with steam or your internet provider.
CaptainRorschach 0 Posted January 22, 2014 Download speed is 14MB/s. On my old PC, with the same internet, I got a steam download speed of between 1MB/s and 2MB/s (Bearing in mind that steam works in bytes, not bits, which is why it's approx. an eighth of the speed listed). Internet works well, but Steam still downloads in tiny chunks.
TioSeba 0 Posted January 22, 2014 Well maybe its way to basic, but have you tried switching steam servers? Also you could try reinstalling windows, I know its very triky, but if your old computer handles it better than your new it could be a problem in the OS.Also, have you contacted the shop that sold you the pc? Crit 46 Posted January 23, 2014 As Tio said.. Change your download server and restart steam, see if that helps. Check http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ to help pick a server In the Steam window. View -> Settings -> 'Downloads + Cloud'(TAB) -> 'Under the Download region section in the dropdown
