In Depth Building's or Towns

Recommended Posts

I was reading about this type of idea in another post, so i decided to start a whole new topic on this and see what other opinions might be. Building's should be more interactable. Be able to install generators at specific points of buildings to be able to give power to a certain building or to a specific floor or a couple floors of a large apartment building. Then someone can setup lights or motion sensor lights or install one of those blood coolers or a food cooler for meats after hunting in the woods.. Of course this is something far later in the development but could be used in many more ways. Lets say when they do put in vehicles. You could install a generator at a gas station to get the pumps working. You could even leave the generator there for other people to use as long as someone keeps the generator filled with gas.. This would also give migration of zombies a little help also.. A loud generator would bring in zombies from pretty far away and then you would have to protect yourself while your filling your car with gas or protect your base while the generator is running..

While I was writing this I started coming up with something different. I will use Elektro as an example town..

The whole town of Elektro would be this type of event area and at specific points of the town, like the power plant, would be these missions that everyone can participate in. At the power plant the mission would be to turn in 1000 coal or wood, 500 spare parts, etc, etc. If the mission was completed the power in Elektro would be turned on for a few days. Of course turning on the power in elektro would only turn on the street lights and maybe get power to some buildings like the gas stations. Then maybe at certain points of the roads that come into Elektro you could have a mission where 1000 wood, some spare parts would have be turned in and then a barricade at that road point could be constructed that helps keep zombies out.. Of course there are soooooo many different problems that come with this, like bandit camping and who knows all the performance and things it might mess up, but this would also help in bringing people together to survive.. Because like the mod this game is always going to have a SoS(Shoot on Sight) mentality and take whatever you have for myself..

Missions...? No...this isn't that kind of game where you go out and kill 1000 zeds to get a DMR.

Repairing a power plant is less likely to happen than a survivor using a power generator of a smaller kind which is easier to maintain and to keep working. I know a lot of people just think that electricity comes out of the socket but it needs a lot more stuff than that. Why else are there people working in shifts to keep the plant running and people that keep the power lines in good condition? That alone would keep a large group of players occupied 24/7 in game if you don't want the power to go down ever if you wanted to make it even close to real.

And imo making secured permanent residentials is kind of nonsense since you can hop into closed locations from any server if you wanted to. This would only work on single hive servers.

This sounds great, but i think it would be damn hard to do. Its not so much about a generator triggering a light source, its more how many static lights there would be. I find cities lag a lot in the A2 editor with a lot of static lights. I think more PvE is the way, give us enemies we carnt handle alone (and no not super hulk, l4d tank zombie lol) but some predetor animals, or heavily armoured zombies  :)

Dat wall of text

Formatting issues aside, i wouldn't mind seeing some type of electricity when player made structures are implemented. Albeit, it would have to be extremely rare, as it would probably just become a bandit attraction whenever someone turns any type of power on

Well missions was the name I gave it, not necessarily named that but a type of objective to work towards. I realize the actual work that goes into keeping a power plant going in real life is completely unrealistic for this game but the idea still stands because the objective is to get more than a couple people working together to make a safe haven from zombies.. Of course there would actually have to be a BIG threat from zombies and as of the mod and the SA, zombies just arent that big of a threat. And I dont think zombies ever will be a BIG threat because of performance problems.. And yes as of now, secure residents in building's would be a huge problem because of the logging onto another server from the same location but that can be fixed. A secured location is never secure. The idea behind secured locations was to give building's a use other than to loot and run out.

Of course having power will attract bandit's and zombie's..  Let's say I am on the second to last floor of one of those big apartment building's and i decide to turn on my generator.. First off the generator will be loud so then that starts attracting zombies and they are moving into the building i am in.. Of course the big apartment building's you have to use a ladder to reach the top so I am safe from the zombies, unless they learn how to climb ladders. then there is a bandit roaming the streets around the building and happens to look up and see lights from the windows where i am at and decides to try and sneak up and take everything I have. But then he would have to somehow deal with the zombies that are bundled up at the ladder without me hearing it. The story can go on but for me to avoid another wall of txt i will end it there and let you think about what could happen next.. My point is they could make use of the building's they have in game instead of making more building's that almost have no use at all..

I agree.. I have no clue when it come's to coding and all that stuff that goes into making a game but the performance of this game is really bad and I have a decent rig setup. I also agree that zombies just arent a threat really. They are to easy to kill and not enough of them.
