Alcohol tincture bug?

Recommended Posts

Had a fresh spawn yesterday. Ran around gearing up and fighting the usual zombies along the way. I bandaged myself to stop the bleeding and everything was good. I found plenty of food and drink and eventually got the "Healthy" status. I found some alcohol tincture while I was healthy and applied it to myself. Immediately my status changed to "Sick" from "Healthy". Is that normal?

Eventually it went away and I returned to healthy but I was not getting any messages about wounds or being sick before putting the tincture on.

Never used it on myself as i assume I'd be drinking it or something.

I used it to clean the rags. They become perfectly shiny bandages with it plus it will help to clean the wounds over time.

It seems every kind of drug or medication has this bug that gives you a "Sick" box while it is working on you. Antibiotics and charcoal tablets does the same. Just wait it out and when it is finished actively curing you (probably from nothing) it will go away. It should not be taken as meaning that you are actually sick when it pops up.

Ahhhh, gotcha. That makes sense.

I didn't think I was sick prior to using the tincture and eventually the sickness went away as normal.

I do have another question related to the tincture. Say you get hit by a zombie and bleed. You bandage and stop the bleeding then apply the tincture. Then, a few minutes later you fight another zombie and bleed again. Do you need to re-apply the tincture again or will the first usage work on this new  wound as well? I would think you would have to re-apply but just wondering if anyone has any experience/info about it?

Probably just an amazing coincidence, but it seems like after you apply the alcohol, it seems to attract zombies.

I've applied it and had zombies run past teammates, straight to me, usually when I'm peeking around corners, or eating, etc.

If your status says 'healthy' then you should not be taking antibiotics or applying alcohol - because you are healthy and do not need it.

When I have used these 2 things in the past it has been after I have been wounded, and your status will turn to 'sick' having taking either of them. You will then eventually get messages such as 'my wounds are looking cleaner' or 'my wounds hurt less'. Eventually the 'sick status will disappear and you are then not infected with anything that could potentially bite you in the ass later on.

Do not use alcohol or antibiotics if you are healthy - a complete waste.

However, epinephrine and pain killers/morphine I am yet to suss out yet.

Don't worry some medical supplies are a bit buggy atm and always give you "sick" atm. This is I think because for alcohol at least you have wounds you don't know about and its saying your sick now because well you know about the wounds so cant hide it from you anymore. Probably not that for sure but more the fact that its bugged and always gives that effect. Don't worry though you are still healthy behind that sick status. Right now the status are buggy and not working proper so new status override older status but the older ones they are still in effect. Check out Merinos guides for more info on this and other great advice. The guide is a sticky at the top of new player discussion forum section.

That is not true just because it says your healthy does not mean you are not sick or infected or hurting from wounds. Healthy just means your full of enough energy food and water to be able to regen health or blood. That is why if you are healthy and you get beat up for a bit & loose some blood your status changes to healing. Going back to healthy after the previous attack does not mean you do not need to clean your wounds or take painkillers to stop your guy from moaning. Alcohol is only broken right now because it always give you the status of sick and "my wounds are getting clean" even if you are not wounded. Now this does not mean that when you are wounded it doenst work it does. Antibiotics right now is another beast entirely I am pretty sure antibiotics don't work period or are similar to Alcohol. Antibiotics are getting a fix soon along with most other drugs that are always applying the status and not doing whats intended.

So do use both as one does whats it intended to do ALL the time. While the other doesnt do crap and wont hurt you so grow a pair :P . Though don't just take antibiotics only take them if you think you are infected with something nasty. DO NOT drink the alcohol and if ever accidentally do take charcoal tabs IMMEDIATELY and you will be fine. Also charcoal tabs for when a dick feeds you rotten fruit or disinfectant the tabs will save your life.

Epinephrine is used to wake someone up who is unconscious or used to take away the effects of shock. Pain pills will help you stop moaning if you have been beaten up to much and are hurting from it. I believe they also can help you move someone who has a broken limb but will not solve the problem. Morphine WILL stop your guy from crying out like a little girl from a broken limb and will let you walk on it with out bitching about it. This will not heal the broken leg fully but will keep your guy quite while you heal. Now I heard that you can make splints out of duct tap and sticks but I tried and couldn't do it. It might be rags and sticks I am not sure but a splint will seriously help with broken limbs.

Medicines taken when you're not sick currently give you a bogus "sick" status. This is mentioned in the patch notes for the coming patch as fixed.

The trouble with this though is if you apply the alcohol it will tell you eventually that your wounds are clean. So healthy or not you still seem to have wounds. I just put up with the sick status until I'm totally fixed up.

Your post is bollocks basically - you do not know what you are talking about.

If you have had the fortune to not have had a zombie wound, and then you fill yourself up with water, vitamins and food, then yes, you will be healthy. But if you have had a wound of some kind that you have not treated, then fill yourself up until you fricking well explode - you will not be healthy from just eating and drinking.

Try it noob.

Let me guess, you are one of these KoS heroes who has come here hoping for just another FPS game?

Typical crap.

Yep, and thats just a part of the game mate. In real life you do not magically get better in an instant from taking drugs or applying medicine.

If in real life you take antibiotics or rub alcohol into open wounds, however healthy you are, you will have side effects.

So IMO it is not a bug. It's just real life getting it's revenge on people who do not know what certain meds are for.

All of you guys also need to keep in mund that as this is an alpha, there are 'placeholders' in effect. like with the current update in progress, you will get "sick" when you eat too much but it is soon to be "stuffed". It saying 'sick' might just be a temporary placeholder until they optimize and finish various things in game upon which they will change it. Just as right now the zombies are just a placeholder so that the alpha has something in it that was quick to implement until they can reine the actual thing and replace said placeholder.

I am sorry but what?!?! I think you have severely misunderstood me.

This happens to me all the time you will have the healthy status even when your guy is moaning in pain from a wound. If you keep your food energy and water levels high enough to have the healthy status stay even after being attacked and bleeding you are just well feed. If you get attacked loose blood and the healthy status you where just barley healthy and not fully healthy and should eat and drink more. Healthy just means your blood and health levels are good and high also that your food water and energy are high enough to make/keep you healthy/healing. This is my point though & I think its the same that you are trying to make. That you may still be healthy from eating and drinking but still have wounds to address and not be truly healthy. This is due to the fact of the game being Alpha and the medical and status system is super buggy. I never said you did not need to apply alcohol or antibiotics to clean wounds just shut up and eat and drink you'll be fine. I told them to take it because even though you are "healthy" you may still truly not be. This information is not my own but what I learned from watching and understanding Merinos guides found here. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159251-merinos-in-depth-video-guides-updated-jan-15th-understanding-sicknesses-and-surviving-poisoning/

Watch these they will save your life more times than a gun or axe will.

The rest is just silly crap that is not at all a part of the discussion at hand.

Well it depends on which type of AB you use You are much more likely to get GI upsets with Amoxyclillin than you are Flucloxacillin as they do different jobs.  Some people don't get side effects from Amoxy at all some do. Fluclox probably a rash would be the most common thing you'd get so hardly the end of the world.

Alcohol tincture - I reckon with zombie scratches it would sting a bit but the alcohol is only really used as a base for the tincture so it would depend on what the tincture is made of.

I've used medi-swabs, (alcohol based injection site swabs - frowned upon these days as the can make the skin sting when the needle goes in),  loads of times to clean up scratches.and minor cuts that I've got at work. Also alcohol based hand sanitizers too are handy to clean up a cut.

I fully understand it's an alpha. If I was scratched by a zombie if the only thing I had at hand was alcohol then I'd be pouring it on the wound and would fully expect to curse a bit. Bearing in my though that during my last infection control training - it was suggested that alcohol is not that great at killing germs - bleach now that's a different story.

It is and is mentioned as one and known by the dev team and is being fixed. The medical system is currently highly broken in certain respects. Your are simply wrong in your understanding of the system my friend.

Take pain pills your guy is not cursing from the alcohol he is wounded a little more seriously than normal. I haven been beaten by zombies so bad my guys does the whole moaning and cursing that you get from breaking a limb. If that doesn't work take a morphine those cry's of pains are seriously audible and will give you away.

Totally agree but I was replying to Conan and his post about medication and real life. God yeah I love finding pain killers although I'm not finding them as effective as in the mod but as you've said the whole injury/illness/treatment  system is very messed up at the mo. Still I don't think it will  be first on the list to be fixed as there are more important bugs to be ironed out.

So to update painkillers do not work at all period right now use morphine instead if your guy is in pain. Alcohol tincture and antibiotics do not do anything only because infections are not in the game yet. So right now they only go the last stage of the "sickness" and complete its cycle. Meaning that while you get wounds you do not get a chance of infection and do not need to clean wounds. Just take morphine if you have been damage severe enough to be moaning. Now for me I'm still going to use the alcohol just because zombies are dirty and I want to be uber clean so its just good hygiene guys come on. Just check out merinos new guide for more info on medical items that work and don't "work" in the current state of the game.

painkillers do work, but they work more realistically than just pop one and no more pain, you have to use a few over a long period of time. Or just log out and back in... that currently works too.

Nope, painkillers cannot work - they don't even have an effect in their code when you use them. Placebo placeholders. I go over all medical items in my latest video, take a look if you have unanswered questions or are in doubt.

All Medical Items - To keep or not to keep?

Dirty Rags do not cause infection but do not combat it. As I said, using the tincture to sterilize them is a better bet. Also you'll keeping getting the messages about "wounds looks cleaner" after you apply the sterile rags.

:) I couldn't have said it (much) better, lovely to see people defend verifyable facts.

Only minor things would be that painkillers don't help against moaning, also not in high dosages as some people claim. They don't have an onComplete code which is responsible for handling the actual effect, so all that happens when using them is the animation playing. Vitamins have perfectly zero to do with health regeneration, your argumentation is flawless here. Antibiotics used to do the exact same thing as alcohol (and by exact same thing I mean they had the exact same code, letter by letter). Recently, the sickness caused has been removed from them and charcoal, but it's still there for alcohol. Morphine and splints also have the exact same code for their effect, which is setting damage (as in damaged limbs, and also what causes the moaning) to zero, so for now no temporary impairment after using them. Leg broken, splint, get up and run a 100m sprint, no problem.
