I Only Play Overnight in my Region, am I Screwed

Recommended Posts

So I hate playing at night. It's annoying and I don't think anyone prefers night time over daylight. I know there are daylight servers out there but they are always packed with people. I am brand new to DayZ SA (did not play Arma 2 Mod) and I am just trying to learn my way around the map, get some gear together, etc., so a full server is not the best place to accomplish this task.

I am pretty much stuck playing DayZ overnight as I have no free time during the day (married, job, kid, etc. you do the math). So my question is, if I'm stuck playing overnight in real life, am I pretty much stuck playing on a night sky server if I am looking for a server with a low population?? Paid money for this game obviously so I'd hate for it to essentially be unplayable -- I'm not talking Alpha unplayable (that is excused) but just visually unplayable :(

There's plenty of 24/7 daylight servers (though personally I hate that). If you're choosing your server by ping, you probably will have a hard time. Fortunately ping isn't a big issue in DayZ, so look around for servers up to 300 ping and you'll find one that's day.

I'll try that!

Full servers are not necessarily the most dangerous...

Servers with low numbers attact server hoppers and military base raiders...and you tend to lower your guard, as you dont expect to meet anyone.  Dangerous combo.

Plus full servers offer way more opportunities to interact with humans... the most rare asset in the post apocalyptic world.

Shameless pub, but being jumping on killernetworkgaming ( no idea where they are located ) and the build is perfectly stable so far. And never saw it with low population at any time.

I'll try the "up to 300" latency ones and join the buddies from overseas as well. Thanks for the tip on the ping.

All that was on last night was day servers. The boys and I looked for 45 minutes for a night server. Even the 24/7 night time servers were day so.

i played on my first night time session last night. . and wow ,it adds a whole new dimension to the game. i kinda didnt play as supposed to be as i just ramped up the gamma setting ( i had already ditched my flashlight as i mainly play day servers). glad i did, as i was in east berezino area and could see the construction yard beaming with different torchlights flashing around. it seems those things flash on the landscape outside walls and things . . . . in a big way!

and hearing a zombie running to you but not knowing where it is freaking scary, especially when it pops out of a wall!

i think ill leave full night time with a torch for when im newspawned again, just to see what it is like.

Believe it or not, its much better to play at night. Zombies have terrible sightlines to the point that they will often lose track of you if you are only 30m away with nothing between you. It makes it easier to move around with the cover of darkness too, the only thing it hinders is navigation simply because you can't see landmarks. Plus as of right now there is a bug that if you drop a flashlight that is turned on, then pick it up and turn it off in inventory, the beam will stay as if the light was still on the ground. Great way to set up ambushes by just baiting players to investigate the light inside a building and shoot them when they go to open the doors.

On another note though, if you are stuck playing at night, regardless of what you want the visual quality to be, I recommend turning off shadows and clouds. This makes it so that night isn't nearly as dark so long as the moon is out (which is common) and makes the server much more playable. It may affect your personal preference to have shadows during the day, but even if you have a PC that can handle em, it will still help it use less and run cooler. Either way, doing this should help your nighttime antics a hell of a lot.

My first 9 hours of play was night time, It's an interesting experience, unfortunately there is the bugs with the flashlight the full gamma thing and it's just pitch black. I'm keen to go back but just waiting until they address some of the issues, even then I wouldn't play on them all the time.

There was a thread on reddit where one lovely user did a night re-colour, personally I think this is a bit bright but it's a damn sight better then what we have now.
