Bring back the "lone survivor" play style

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember when Dayz was that game where you didn't really know what was going on? When you moved from town to town barely able to survive with your one can of beans and refillable water bottle. For me, this made DayZ more fun and scary. You never knew what to expect or what will happen. Playing with friends made the experience more personal. I guess all I want is the immersion to return.

Now it seems that every server lets you spawn where you want and/or gives you good starting loot. I wouldn't be complaining as much if there were hardcore servers, but there are barely any now. DayZ should feel like a post-apocalyptic world, not just a deathmatch where everyone gathers and stores weapons. It was that feeling of not knowing where to go or what to do that made Dayz so addictive.

I am assuming you haven't played the SA yet,

Trust me bro, it brings that feeling back.

Try some 1st Person only or night time servers, makes things much harder and puts you on edge

i played the last weeks on 3P Servers only, last night we try 1p only, it was a complete other feeling of gameplay.

it was so epic, we move like a real squad,  checking corners before crossing etc...

wait for further patches and try 1P servers.

I'm just giving SA time to run it's course.

I've put nearly 40 hours into it, and it's getting try. The lack of recent updates have worn the game out for me. Bugs have been addressed, problems noted. I'm just taking a hiatus until the game reaches further into development, until it hopefully reaches the desired stage you're talking about.

      snip snip snip

Unfortunately all this is because of server owners and the Epoch mod

Pretty much all the good vanilla servers have little/no population unfortunately, And since the SA is Early alpha and needs work, there isn't much to find or do regarding the original feel of dayz

The Standalone is waaaaay to easy right now. Nothing like the original mod. Supplies are so common

Any version of thr mod can ruin the experience. Having an economy like in Epoch was basically a good idea but with the abundancy in-game you could get rich and bored in a matter of hours. If you had to blame somebody it had to be the server host since he can adjust the loot according to the desired difficulty. But you always risk to lose players if they can't handle the difficulty.

I've always loved first-person only servers but after summer 2012 all the servers were dead.

It's great that the first-person servers are so well populated in DayZ retail. Everything is so much more tense when you actually have to stick your head around a corner to see what's lurking there!
