SiSi 6 Posted January 19, 2014 yeah we shouldnt feel safe in the forest fare away from the zombies. by night it would be great to run through a forest and boom stand in front of an wolf with lightning eyes and a scary sound. <3

somethingbloody 118 Posted January 19, 2014 Me and a buddy were talking about this while running through a forest on our way somewhere.I was talking about hunting game, and how they could make it pretty exciting with realistic hitboxes and behaviour. A deer for example has a fairly small brain, so going for a headshot is not as easy as with a human being. A good hunter aims for the heart, generally just behind the front leg (I think), and if you hit it, it will run for a few seconds and fall to the ground dead. If you miss the heart a deer can run very far, sometimes kilometers before the adrenaline runs out and it finally succumbs to it's wounds. If they incorporated that into DayZ hunting it would reward accuracy and real world knowledge, and missing a vital area would mean tracking a bleeding deer cross country to earn your meat. Hope you're not starving. We also talked about wolves, and how terrifying it would be if you were moving through a forest and a pack was actually tracking you, waiting for an opportunity to attack. Especially at night if you could see the shine of their eyes.STALKER had a fantastic system for mutant wildlife AI. They would move in groups, hunt and fight eachother, get wounded and run away. The AI system was called A-Life if I recall, a fairly complex system for animal (and bandit, stalker and soldier) AI spawning and behaviour. An animal like a dog would make a decision whether to attack you or not based on factors such as "Am I hungry?" "are you armed?" "are you wounded?" "have you fired your gun?" "Do we outnumber you?" "Are you looking in my direction".That sort of system for DayZ wildlife would be incredible when mixed with DayZ's complex systems. You could be in a forest, with a pack of wolves tracking you from a far, you get wounded and bleed, and they would become bolder and move closer. Then your friends arrive and bandage you up and keep overwatch and the wolves are outnumbered and they back off again.
frosti 2165 Posted January 19, 2014 Be careful what you wish for, as aggresive animal can be the deadlies thing ever added to game. Zombie can kill you when lagged/desync in town out of nowhere, but then you gonna get mauled by lagged wolfs/bears/mooses in forest. gg.
twingunz 308 Posted January 19, 2014 If aggressive wildlife isn't eventually implemented i'll be muchos disappointed, I like to think of this game a a survival game foremost and surviving in the woods shouldn't be a cake walk as soon as cooking is in the forest will be the easiest safest place to be never have to leave, thus i think aggressive wildlife has to play some part... I hope!

I hope they bring such a wildlife structure into DayZ. That'd be real great!
darthbane67 92 Posted January 19, 2014 Whats funny is right now the animals that will be implemented down the road for hunting purposes. As of right now they are using the same AI as the zombies so they are aggressive but not intentionally. So the whole hunting animals will be soon guys thing taking its sweet time. This is due to the we just first we need to make sure the critters do not want to eat your face off. Now having some animals that live in the "RL" "Russian" area of Chearnus that are aggressive intentionally would make running threw the woods at night a bit scarier. Areos (DayZ) 106 Posted January 19, 2014 Previously indigenous only to Mount Bowel Evacuation, these bloodthirsty horrorbeasts have descended into the lower reaches of Chernarus to feed on the flesh of the living. When this harbinger of death roars towards you in the darkness of night, only then will you know pure, unmitigated fear.
darthbane67 92 Posted January 20, 2014 I am fine with aggressive animals as long as its not Deathclaws and the bear things from Fallout I forgot those damn bears names. I'll ask Goldie Locks when she gets back from their house.
