I think when somebody starts bleeding it should be like a dinner bell for the zombies around to come running.

 

I also think that when a player goes down(unconscious or dead) the zombies should swarm the body and slowly tear them apart. Either destroying the gear or leaving it on the ground badly damaged.

 

Another nice addition would be clothing becoming soaked in blood would attract nearby zombies until you can find some water and wash off the blood.

Just a random question I throw in here, because I never seemed to be able to understand it:

 

Why exactly does everyone think Zombies would magically be able to smell blood over a couple of hundred or even more than two meters?

The Z's are interested in tasty survivor meat. 

 

So the clothing should be badly damaged. But the Z's won't damage cans or scopes. Why should they? 

 

Nice ideas though. You should implement the stuff with the blood if the AI is ready and they can't noclip anymore.

Why not?

 

There is no DayZ -Lore. 

So everybody can imagine the strenght of their senses. They could be mutated or couldn't... I think everything, that benefits the gameplay should be done.

Because they're fictional zombies. I didn't say hundreds of meters tho, that would be pushing it. I'm thinking more like 20m.

 

Blood isn't the only reason they would come running. Bleeding is a result of an injury which would probably cause you to scream in pain, also other zombies would probably make noises that alert the rest, causing a feeding frenzy. Along with the smell of blood.

I said the stuff would get damaged or destroyed because the devs implemented the 10 minute body despawning to prevent people from going back for their gear. If we added a mechanic where zombies ate the bodies but dropped the loot, people would run back. If it was damaged, ruined, or destroyed, they would be less likely to run back, but other people might find a mutilated corpse with ruined gear around it and feel a chill run up their spine or something. I like the idea of finding evidence of humans being there, even if that's a pool of blood with some ruined items.

I didn't say that I hate your idea - it appears to be a general theme no matter where you look. For example TV-Show and films pick up on it, which doesn't necessarily mean I like the idea. I was merely trying to understand as to where it's coming from and why it would be that way.

 

I like the idea of Zombies being a bit more aware of what is going on as a group rather than single Z's running at you eliminating the thread the Z's should pose.

Totally agree with zeds damaging gear on a corpse, seems like a good way of finding a balance between having bodies littered around the map which add atmosphere and it being too easy to just run back to a body to get your gear back.

It is unrealistic that solid items like guns would be damaged but why not have a random chance of items being picked up and carried away by zeds, would love to see a random zed shambling along loosing grasping an M4 or a can opener.

 

Edit: doesn't even have to be just zeds, if someone dies out in the wilderness there could be wild hungry dogs/wolves that come out to feast.

 

Not going to happen until server performance is improved though so for now a 10 minute timer is fine i'd say.

I think it comes from real predators in nature that smell the blood and come after it. Animals like sharks and bears are typically thought to come charging with bloodlust when you start bleeding.

I personaly always thought that this is in the game already but is not currently functioning at the alpha phase.

"My clothes are soaked in blood" message must mean a warning that zombies can smell your blood from a distance.

Or in the future we should be able to make laundry? Or both theese reasons? :P
