Second thoughts about my banditry..

Recommended Posts

So I had a revelation today. I came across two people, unarmed mind you. One fellow I saw and against my judgement I said hello. He said hi back and we exchanged food for ammo, etc. We both went about our way. The same thing happened when I came across a new player (previously target practice), and instead of raising my gun to shoot him I said hello, gave him some food and meds, he thanked me and went about his day.

Does this make me not a bandit anymore?

Does it make you feel better?

Bandits rob people. Murderers Kill people.

I like to think I'm a Murderous Bandit slaying Hero.

Not everyone you meet is happy to see you. I've had countless fresh spawns try to punch me, they ruined it for every other bambi along the coastline. I engage all hostile targets on the coast.

I'm a hero in the mod. and until i get some sort of recognition for my services in the standalone its a shoot first hide body mentality for me.

True heroes do not need recognition for their services.. You're not a hero.. Just an ego-maniac.

Okay I shall carry on slaying every unarmed survivor running up the coast.

I shall ask if they are friendly first, and with less time to give a response. They die

Theres no point in trying to be any sort of hero anyways at least not here

You're not a bandit and you're not not a bandit your just a dude bro, a dude just dudeing around the world tryin to survive with deeds of kindness and deeds of murder!

I don't understand why people play a set way (hero/bandit) people in real life are hypocrites all our morals are grey even when we think they're not, because people are situational one day something that is a no is a yes the next day, It's better to play how you feel sometimes friendly sometimes not as long as you're alive you're doing it right!

I reject your utilitarianism. In fact I doubt its even that, and not merely moral relativism. I also reject your classification of all people as hypocrites as a gross generalisation.

To the OP: Welcome to the dark side. It isn't an easy path to take as you have to go out of your way and place yourself in a position to lose everything. But we get to save the world one fresh spawn at a time.

There is no point in being a bandit. Gear? You get no gear from fresh spawns, and even geared peoples gear is ruined when you shoot them to death. Self-defense? What are fresh spawns going to do to you? Punch you to death? If you get knocked out by a fresh spawn, you deserve to lose your character... Proving you're an internet badass? Nobody is impressed by your ability to hold down the "fire" key in the general direction of unarmed players.

So, what's the point of shooting everyone you see?

Lol errrr... what does utilitarianism or moral relativism have anything to do with what i said? i'm not sure if you're baiting me here (if so good job it worked haha) as both are so far from what i said lol

all people are hypocrites it's not about generalization it's about human nature, just as it's in our nature to lie, cheat and steal when in our best interest; add into the equation that the games based in a post apocalyptic world then that 'truth' of human nature magnifies itself even further. You seem to be talking about moral values, moral values contradict human nature that is part of the reason why all humans are hypocrites, especially for the fact if you're discussing morals you have to factor in that morals are personal and can't be applied to everyone unlike human nature which applies to us all. we don't have to agree to get along! (which in itself is a hypocritical statement :P)

I think that bandits are a very needed thing in DayZ, because they make the game have that human level of experience. however, being a DayZ hero is a lot more fulfilling in my opinion. I try and help people as much as I can because it just makes the game about then times better.  Plus, very few people are fortunate enough to run into a friendly that is willing to help any way they can.

Ya outta check this out if you want to see the fun side of being a DayZ Hero.

That is not utilitarianism, but regardless morals ARE subjective.  Let me guess, you reject what he said because some old story book told you to?

News flash: Morals aren't based on the bible.

I like just going with how I'm feeling at that moment in time. I'm very much a KoS player, but if you're a fresh spawn and you see me running down the coastline as I'm prone to do once kitted out - I'll probably just have a quick conversation with you and leave a bag of rice (which I found out today really dehydrates you -_-). You encountered fresh spawns. There's no reason not to shoot geared people on sight and hand out gifts to newspawns. You aren't a bandit anymore, you're Robin Hood, taking from those who have, and giving to those who have not.

Truth is, I hate killing people its not my way of play style. If I wanted to make an attempt at killing someone, I usually hop on a good wasteland server (no tws) guns and ammo are plenty with vehicles galore.

To the OP...

I usually try to make every encounter a friendly one. It may be still be hard to communicate with some people but they don't deserve to be shot just because they can't speak english or know where talk button is. If I have spare gear and I'm on the coast I share my gear...maybe even give a bambi my only pristine can opener, or even give him/her 90% of my gear and show them where some water is. Some people just want to kill you and that is that :D

I was on my way with some random allways having him Walking in front of me.

We went along rather well until he made a bad racist remark. He got a Magnum bullet for that in the back of his racist skull.

Lot's of people thanked me actualy  (in advance) for killing them when I set camp near this spawn zone south, away from suicide tower in Solnichniy.

Just because you are a hypocrit doesn't mean we are all hypocrits.  Some of us have enough integrity to do what we feel is right in every situation both in game and IRL.  Just because you let your emotions determine your playstyle it doesn't mean there aren't level headed people out there on both sides who are actually trying to accomplish something in the game.

Not dissing you but i feel you are doing yourself a disservice by believing your own generalisations.
