Better camouflaged storage

Recommended Posts

I don't know if tents exist yet in the standalone, but I haven't seen one. Has anyone here seen one? Anyway.

One of the more annoying aspects of storing things in the DayZ mod was the fact that your tent would - given enough time - almost definitely be found by a thief. I would love to collect the complete works of William Shakespeare, but I know that they would be quickly eaten by axe-wielding trolls.

Some suggestions:

  • Better color -  I think this one is pretty obvious. At the right angle, a tent in the mod stands out like a dancing Pikachu. You can cram it into the lower branches of a thick evergreen and still have a beacon of wealth shining for all to see.
  • Better camo options - I remember finding a camo net in the mod for the first time and thinking it was meant to be draped over your tent for better camouflage. Nope. I suggest something that you can just put on the tent that would make it look more like part of a tree or even a rock.
  • Thicker underbrush - This would just make the forests thicker and the tents happier.
  • Shorter draw distance - I imagine that one of the most effective methods for hiding tents would be to keep them invisible to the player until they are nearby. From an opposite hill or a helicopter, the lower draw distance of the plants really makes the tents obvious.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Tents should be no less visible than anything else in game. Otherwise why not just have a W**Z style global inventory? TBH we don't need that sort of priviledged storage.

DayZ is DayZ because what happens in DayZ, stays in DayZ, including the finding and caching of items.

Camo tents should be rare.  The majorty of them should be 'brightly colored' civilian models or tarps on poles.

I like the idea of rarer camo tents. It would be abit like the backpack situation now.

And DJPorterNZ, I'm not wanting to have things too different. I just think that thieves should need to do more than fly above the woods to find people's things.
