What do you think of weapon rarity

Recommended Posts

Upon server restart there is about ~15 of m4a1 on the server.

Good luck getting one without server hopping.

I've only played on one server the entire time I've played and have found at least two dozen m4s and maybe five or six mosins. One M4 was at Balota, one was at the military base just NW of there, and at least a dozen were in the building that people used to call the school or office. I found two at NWAF after a restart, which happened to be the only time I went there. That's also not counting the dozens I've found on the corpses of idiots playing bandit who shot at me and died. What does it say about your play style when you claim you HAVE to server hop to find one when I find them all over the map. Are you not leaving the coast at all? I could see by 'playing the game' you mean spawning, rushing Balota then only roaming the coast killing fresh spawns.

Wiki says mosin fires 7.62x54mmR rounds

Mosins came in a couple different variations depending on whether they were standard infantry issue or sniper issue and took different rounds in each variation.

For OP, I think the game could do with a lot less of the 'I need an automatic weapon to play' type players. I've gone weeks on one life in the mod with a lee enfield. Right now they need lots of guns in order to test what they need to test. Once they drop a few hundred times more zombies it will make for a better experience in 'survival' having less automatic and military grade weapons.

Personally I think its a mistake to lower spawn rates.  1 fully geared guy can dupe himself all the gear a 5 man naked deathsquad could every want in 30 seconds.

Exploiters are always going to have gear... the only question is how hard you want to make it on everyone else to get weapons.

So long, fair well....

The game actually gets better when the loot is less common. I think because it removes the people who can't handle the game.

Silly response.

"The game actually gets better when the loot is less common.?" Really? Thanks for your opinion.

"I think because it removes the people who can't handle the game." I can't handle the game? Just because I dont want to run in the wood for 22 hours without a weapon and suddenly, you figured out my style of game play that I might want a weapon thats somewhat easily attainable.

Your ridiculous comments are the exact reason why you are a gamer and not a developer.

I assume when there's more weapons it'll be easier to find 'a' gun, any random gun. If it isn't we'll lose players.

Without the idiotic debates about what is and is not realistic, the fact is no one wants to spend 2 hours looking for a gun, especially if they're getting shot at whilst doing so.
People just think 'fuck it', and quit.

There's a fine line between a challenging, avant-garde emergent gameplay and just plain boring because I die all the time and can't find weapons.

I already have to server hop 5-10 times to get m4a1.

Weapons are too rare.

Lies... I've never server hopped and have a M4. You don't "have" to, you choose to.

Your numbers are way off. You have the NWAF with multiple spawn location there and I have actually seen three of them spawn in a Barracks. The new military base has two barracks. Balota has dozens of locations to spawn them. The NEAF has more. They also spawn on top of "schools" and "hospitals" and in Firehalls. There is likely 30-40 of them on a server at start.

With the significantly increased number of military installations across the map, including military barracks that were once exclusive to NW airfield, I'd find it acceptable if military-quality weaponry had a reduced spawn rate as opposed to the DayZ mod.

However, civilian weapons shouldn't be some obscure phenomena. That doesn't mean that every barn ever has to house a weapon, but when players immediately run to airfields over cities and towns because finding an assault rifle is easier than finding a Winchester, there is a fundamental issue in play.

DayZ, if you have followed any of the past of it, is not meant for you to have a gun right away. Your "22 hours" is hyperbole as you can usually find a gun and ammo within a 2 hour play session. Being a survival game you are not expected to survive or to always have the tools you need to do so, including guns. It is intended that you don't always have a gun. This is an important part of the game and if someone can not handle being without a gun then it is probable that this is not a game they will enjoy. So yeah, if you can't deal with it, GTFO. :)

Hi.

My guess is those would mostly be the same people that will only play on 24/7 daylight servers, and just want the game dumbed down more and more, so no sweat off my back, good riddance I say.

Besides, it looks like private hives are going to arrive a lot faster than I expected, I'm sure there will be plenty of DM oriented servers where you spawn fully kitted to keep the easy mode playerbase happy.

Regards.

If anyone thinks guns are too rare now, i think you are in for a shock when its finished. As it stands theres so many items that arent even in the loot tables yet. Even just things from the mod, which will probably be expanded on just like the food and drink. Heres just what i can think of off the top of my head...

Vehicle parts -

Engines

Wheels

Scrap Metal

Fuel Cans

Windscreen Glass

Main Rot

Tents

Barbed Wire

Sandbags

Tank Traps

Then imagine theres about 20-30 guns. A lot are civilian models, and not very good. Ammo is rare, and so many types that finding matching ammo for your gun is hard.

Then imagine every loot pile has a high chance to spawn one of 10 "junk" items, like empty tin cans , or toilet roll.....

Welcome to Dayz :)

You are correct but right now we are far over on the "Spawn too frequently" side of things. 2 hours to find something like an M4 does not seem unreasonable to me. It actually sounds like a game I want to play. There are plenty of games out there were you are geared up simply by spawning in, or in just a short period of time. Leave those of us who like a game where it takes 2 hours to find a gun the ONE game that is like that.

Oh damn, I almost forgot about the junk. So many of these complainers are gonna flip out when they find twenty empty tin cans before they see their first can of beans.

Firearms should not be easy to find, Ammo should be rare. High end military gear in serviceable condition extremely rare and should be more spread out and randomized rather than concentrated at military bases.
