My character ceases to exist when I change servers.

This is the third time this has happened to me. I will try to change servers because of my packet loss with one server and I will be dead. All times this has actually happened I have been in the middle of the woods with no zombies and no players nearby, in low-pop servers. When I go to my loading screen beforehand it does not show that I have no items. I log onto the new server, I have no items. I change to a veteran server to make sure I didn't go to one of those default servers, and I have no items still. Everything is lost. I do not understand this - is it a bug? Am I being punished for changing servers and the game isn't telling me?

I would like to reiterate there have been NO reasons for me to die in-game. I am not hungry, thirsty, bleeding, sick; I am in the middle of nowhere where there are no zombies or players. Has happened multiple times.

I would love to know if this is a bug or a "feature" punishing me for not playing on the same server. Someone please help me with this, thank you.

It happens, when you change server apparently it has something to do with hives. Sometimes joining the server on which you last had your gear will restore it.
