drayson 158 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Hopped on my usual server last night and almost immediately run into two gents looting the same building as me. After calling out to each other and mutual pant wetting at the surprise of finding another player (hadn't seen anyone for a while) he turns out to be friendly as well as his friend he was running to meet. We trade loots (he got some food, I got a piece of map) we meet up with his friend and go a looting another place as a small team then part ways. Next encounter is at an airfield. I am already in the jail house and I hear him declaring himself in proximity on approach which I respond too. Another friendly who helps me loot the area, find myself a rifle (first one I had found after much searching) and we trade ammo of the types we each need. Then go on our merry way after steam invites went out to each other. This brings my total interactions up to five different people total in my SA lives. First two were on day one and tried to bash my head in, last three all friendly and helpful. I'm liking that ratio. TLDR - There are still friendly people around if you take the risk of communicating first instead of shooting and/or running. Edit - Of course without bandits, these friendly meetings would not have the impact they do so keep up the good work to all those involved in the Dayz world. Mays (DayZ) 154 Posted January 17, 2014 No point even discussing this now. People complain at everything, but I get what you mean. A lot around.
frosti 2165 Posted January 17, 2014 Word of player is nothing for me. Without some humanity system and hero/survivor/bandit skins I assume that everydoby killed some innocent people and I KoS everyone to punish them.
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted January 17, 2014 I bet I've met more friendly players than hostile.
Dr. Goner 661 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Word of player is nothing for me. Without some humanity system and hero/survivor/bandit skins I assume that everydoby killed some innocent people and I KoS everyone to punish them. KOS is just boring at this point. Last night, I was playing with a couple guys. They provided overwatch from the tree lines and hills while I stood out in the open drawing people in. Those that were friendly to me, we gave supplies, those that attempted violence, they shot from a distance. It was great! I have no idea why you would kill someone on sight at this point. There are so many other interesting outcomes. Eventually our operation was compromised by server hoppers that used ghosting to kill one of us. I could see the player and we had them surrounded on the top floor of a building. I said, "You're dead if you don't come out we have you surrounded." Their reply, "I can just log out, that's fair it's still in the game." How friggen' lame is that. I cannot wait until "ruined" items are actually ruined and the server hopping and combat logging is addressed. I think it will provide even greater experiences besides that of simply killing other players. Edited January 17, 2014 by DrGonzo
PhillyT 554 Posted January 17, 2014 I agree with the OP though, we need KOS jerks to keep the tension up.
twingunz 308 Posted January 17, 2014 as much as i feel people try and make KoS into a big deal i agree with the OP most encounters i have are friendly.i've KoS'd more people than have KoS'd me and i don't KoS often at all; only if i feel the person is a threat or acting suspicious. I think it's more the problem of people always remember the bad experiences so for every 50 people that don't kill them the one or two that do means that the 'majority are' because it's all you remember at the time because it is such a big loss.. Tizzle 90 Posted January 17, 2014 I too have run into a shocking number of friendlies lately. My current character should probably be dead given the number of times a player has had the drop on me and NOT killed me. Sign of good things to come?
Hero of Suburbia 40 Posted January 17, 2014 I believe it's entirely up to the players who are playing at the time. I for instance generally kill on sight. Now, that may be misleading because I rarely kill some one shortly after seeing them. I usually size them up, maybe talk to them if they look relatively harmless and rarely let them live, the letting them live is entirely circumstantial. For example the other night a group of my friends and I were engaged in a heavy firefight with another group over elektro. We had just taken control of the inner city but were taking shots from what we call lovers Lane which is the hill with the love bench to the north east of electro and almost directly east of the most northern fire station. I teamed up with my friend and the 2 of us were going to flank around the hill to the south east and come up the back side when we ran into a relatively freshly spawned person. He came over direct chat and seemed really friendly. In my book, too friendly. See we had guns and he didn't. Maybe he was going to try to get us to drop our guard and kill us when that happens?Perhaps he was part of the group we just killed and was going to try some old fashioned espionage? At the moment I couldn't tell, and if we was not part of the group the other group we were fighting would probably kill him on his journey through electro. So that was my thought process. It all ocurred in about 5 seconds. At this time my friend was talking with him, and seemed likely to let him go. I made the decision, under these conditions its not worth it. *crack* Went my mosin as he fell to the ground. My friend reluctant, but the mission continued and we were victorious. Yeah, they should add little bars on the screen that tell me when to eat and drink too. Forced skins are lame. Take a chance, talk to some people, be friendly. Just a game, who cares if you lose your gear, there is more everyday. Edited January 17, 2014 by SpartanxApathy
