Is It Necessary?

Recommended Posts

Everyone chatting about getting 1 hit KO'D. It happened to me to day when I was trying to help someone. I learned my lesson. Bring a bike helmet anytime I go out to help people. Won't save you from a smack of a wrench(Tested it today, 1 hit knockout, haha)or anything else really, but the helmet will save your ass from any Mike Tyson wannabe.

School of hard knocks.

The amount of times I've snuck up fresh spawn on a fully geared player and knocked him unconcious then stole his gun to kill him, I'd say yes, even a fresh spawn is a threat. But that's like just my opinion man.

If you allow someone to sneak up and hit you then you deserve to loose your gear

Why the hell would you KOS a unarmed player... All you people trying to come up with excuses why you KOS are pathetic and your just a nimrod!

Unarmed = no threat

Because the above statement is not correct as many people have discovered to their detriment.

Of course killing them is a bit stupid as you have no reason to approach them at all, but to say they aren't a threat when they can punch you and rob your weapon is false.

Yesterday a freshly started character run toward me and almost beat me to death.

I shoot him 2 bullets in the stomach but nothing, he give me 2/3 punches and then the game has started to work in a strange way,  I could not hit him because my body was kinda blocked. Lucky me sooner or later I finally able to pick up my giant axe and hit the asshole down on the ground.

So... don't understimate how danger a newly born character is

Why should someone shoot at armed players? I mean they are dangerous and can shoot back or attack meele.

Freshspawns running around in high-value loot areas and getting killed only have themselves to blame.

Fine, getting shot on the coast is pointless, but if I see you in Elektro heading for buildings I intend to loot you're going down no matter what you are wearing.

Maybe because they want to die and rather than commit suicide they try this, because you never know...

Agreed, however, why even approach them?

They have nothing to offer you.

Problem is ... you don't gain anything for not killing an unarmed/respawn.

Back to drawing board I think

Introducing overall stats whereby there is an "Unarmed players killed" value may well do it.

I haven't approached him, he appear from a bush in a very isolated place... he was like "Mr., Mr, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH".

Maybe a guy that lost his mind because the fallout :)

It is absolutely necessary.

I wouldn't do it ..(unless the little s*** tries to punch me in the head like one did) ... but it is absolutely necessary for the game play, to teach new spawns that no matter what you have you need to be careful and clever to survive.

Yeah people think the Battlefield netcode is bad (not to imply it's similar really) but the engine DayZ is on handles netcode in an odd way, in that no matter your ping it is still delayed, and works on going backwards and calculating where your hits registered after the other guy started shooting too. Sounds like that's what happened with your stomach shots. I've seen a lot of games handle netcode like this; Battlefield,  Delta Force and Joint Operations games in particular. Sorry I went off on a tangent there.

Unarmed = no threat

That is a dangerous, and false assumption. I've never had to endure the humiliation of getting punched in the head and eventually knocked out/killed by a bambi, but my friends have.

Sorry. Came here thinking it would be interesting, but it'sd just another KoS thread!

Yes it's necessary. We can't have those 12-yro KoS-kiddies roaming the streets!
